New to AutoX and Circuit racing

New to this aspect and would like to know how cars are classed (if they are) and what not. If anyone has an information site so they don't hafta recite an entire book for me on the subject that would rule. Looking to take the car to a course or a track sometime in the spring (would've been this year but the cars been torn down all year ). I'm from Cincy OH so if any of you Ohioans are on here feel free to hit me up on AIM = AtmaSuperSport Like to know local tracks and so on. . .

Thanks ahead of time. . .

Autocross classing in the US is pretty much dictated by the SCCA. They publish a rulebook annually that you can buy from them. The SCCA website can be found here:

www.scca.org

Note that autocross and Solo II refer to the same thing.

Select sections regarding classing are unofficially available here:

http://moutons.org/sccasolo/Rules/index.html

Running on road course is an entirely different animal. Classing is determined by the classing body. Groups that sanction amateur racing include:
NASA (www.nasaproracing.com)
SCCA (see above)
Porsche Club of America (http://www.pca.org/)
BMW Car Club of America (http://www.bmwcca.org/)
...and the list goes on.

The specific classing and permissible mods varies by each of these. Any classing question would have to get much more specific before it is answerable...

What are you looking to do?

Mainly looking to try bits and pieces out. I wouldn't mind AutoXing a several times a year and maybe hitting up a road course once in a blue moon. Nothing professional and I don't know if you can or not but just goto a circuit just to screw around on. I don't know how any of that works so thats the big part of my inquiry. Trying to get ahold of some local SCCA guys to get the jist of it too. . .

The SCCA Cincy Region has a very strong autocross presence. Check those guys out of the autocross stuff.

If you want to do track days, then you want to check with NASA. The NASA national website is www.nasaproracing.com Look for references to HPDE (High Performance Driving Experience)... BTW - I am an instructor in the OH/IN region with NASA... Look me up sometime.
