Hawk HP Plus Pad Install Question

I got a set of Hawk HP Plus front pads for my LT1 from Sam a few months ago.

I finally dropped the car off at my wrench today.

He called me to say the inboard pad clip is riveted lower than the stock clip. Only one half of the clip touches the piston.

Is that normal?

Also, the pads don't come with anti squeal shims. Are the pads so quiet they dont need shims?

TIA

If you are talking about those metal bracket things, you can reuse your old ones. The new pads will squeal, loud, prepare yourslef.

Quiet????? Mine aren't!!!! Squeals like a stuck pig most of the time. My first set lasted from October through January if that tells you anything. But they'll yank your eyeballs out stopping!!

i spoke to sam sr. he said he would ship another set if these were bad.

turns out the rivet is off, and the clip wont hold. My wrench picked up new aimco rear rotors and two sets of their performance plus pads.

he told me the friction surface of the aimcos and hawks looked identical.

i will call sam in a few days when i have the pads in my hand and can describe what i see. from my conversation with sr. i am confident we will be fair with each other. thats why im not in a rush to call him.

The aimco pads are probably very different from the HP+. I'd suggest going HP+ in all four corners. If your rotors aren't warp, leave em alone, keep in mind that hawk pads are hard on rotors.

I went with Hawk Plus in the front and Hawk HPS in the rear.

Me too, but that was to compensation for the goofy brake bias in the LS1. ...too much rear brake in the stock configuration...

The time before I had stock rear pads. After installing the Hawks in the rear, I now realize I didn't have ENOUGH rear brake before. It seems to be a very good combination now.

Here's what's happening: You have a '93 car, the pads are for the '94. The pads are shaped identically, only the "clip" that fits in the piston is on the '94+ pads, where the '93's don't have them at all. I've had '93 that needed '94 pads and '93's that didn't, but the '94 pads will work if you *ahem* tweak the clip on the back (that you don't need anyway and won't even be on a set of specific '93 pads). I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't on those pain in the butt '93's. Everytime I pick a pad, the car needs the other one. <grumble>

The clip is easily bend by hand anyway..... I would just bend it so it fits in the piston and have a nice day. That clip isn't going to make any difference in HP Pluses squealing or not.....
