Harness Bar, Jacking Locations

I see there is a G2 harness bar... It states that it can be bolted in 30 minutes without any modifications to the interior. Is this true?

What have other people used for harnesses? I want a good racing harness that requires not cutting or drilling modifications to my car. It would be a bonus to be able to use it as a camera mount.

Also, now that I am getting R compounds, where is the best location to jack up my car? (LS1 coupe)

Am I correct in my thinking that under the rear end would be a good location?

I have heard that using GM's specified locations can bow out the fenders.

Where is a good spot in the front? Or should I try to find someplace along the sides?

In the rear, I jack mine up under the pumpkin. Just make sure you avoid catching the differential cover. In the front, I do each control arm one at a time. My car is so low I had to make some wooden blocks to drive up on in order to get the jack underneath.

The harness bar will bolt in without cutting anything. You will have to remove your rear seatbelts.

As for jacking, in the back I find it best to jack under the pumpkin. Up front, I have been known to use the frame rail on either side, or under the crossmember. Now I use the subframe connectors.

Aaron,

The G2 Harness Bar is what I have in my car.

It's nice, but with an IO Port camera mount, it's far too low to capture footage of cones. I know some people have rigged up a way to raise the camera...I just haven't gotten around to it.

For harnesses, though, I think it's definitely the way to go. Just say goodbye to your backseat... and 30 minutes is optimistic. It _should_ take 30 minutes to install, but GM's wonderful tolerances makes some bolts harder than others to tighten.

Real disadvantage of Harness Bar

All by itself it could be a real show stopper. I'm sure others have seen this but here it is again. W/O a roll bar, the harness bar and belts keep you upright. That could cause a real problem if the roof collapses!

I agree, but I believe that with a F-Body in an autocross you won't have to worry about that, assuming that is what he's going to use his car for. There is NO WAY I'd go road racing without a cage, not even for track days or even Solo 1.

...I heard you mention something about tires...you're actually getting them?

New rims? What tires? Give me details!!!

I see you've gotten sick of me being a little faster than you

I don't mind getting beat by you.

I just want to annihilate all the imports, including the elusive S2000's. You need to figure out a way to get some tires too, that way we can both beat them

I'm already beating the BMW's even though I am still on the Factory Goodyear Eagle F1's. BMW's are almost as easy to beat as Mustangs mmm Mustangs... taste like chicken.

Now if I could just get Bret to run his SS....
Now that Geoff is moving down to Pittsburgh maybe he will.

If you're going to run 5 or 6 pt harnesses, do it with a rollbar. Harness bars are for autocrossing (where rollover is not a strong possibility)

Bottom Line:

... and I use my SFCs to jack up one side at a time.
