Wider wheels and Lower Profile Tires- What will fit?

I am tired of running in the Street Tire class at the Autocross. My "97 Camaro SS and I times are in-between, better than most of the cars with street tires but several seconds off the competition with the Kuhmos, Hoosiers, etc. It is time to buy a set of dedicated tires and wheels. My 17 x 9's are great but how about something a little wider and lower profile. What will fit under my car with stock fenders, wheel wells and ride height???? I might lower the car an inch or so someday but for now I am enjoying the stock Eibachs, Bilsteins and some negative camber. What has worked for you all out there???

Hi Ken,

I might suggest a set of 17x10 wheels (I like the CCW's...) with 275/40 Kumho Victoracers or other similar tire. The 10" wheel will fit easily on the front and rear (though you may want a different backspace - check), and clear fenders and such without anything special. The 10" wide wheel is very good for racing with a 275 tire.

I have these on the front of my Camaro, you're welcome to swing by for a test fit. On the rear I'm running 17x11 with 315's, though that's always a tight fit with some work necessary...

I'm running some AFS ZR1 wheels (17x11) with 35mm offset and using Kumho V700 275/40 tires. It's the max width rim for the tire size, but I already had the tires and figured I'd use them up on the new wheels. My car is at 25 1/8" front and 26.5" rear and I have no clearance issues anywhere so far. Next year I'll have some Hoosier 315/35 tires and then I may have to do a little banging.

You can find AFS wheels on ebay usually pretty cheap. I paid $600 for all four of mine.
