35mm and Stock Rear Sway?
35mm and Stock Rear Sway?
Can this be done? Anything thoughts on it? I was lookin on upgrading sway bars since lowering the car will give the dealer something to really bitch about. So i heard 35MM is the best for front.. its perfect from what i hear... but should i get the rear ST 25MM bar with it? Or should i jsut get the front?

I'm running a Suspension Technologies solid 35MM front and stock rear in my SS. The shocks are stock Decarbons and the springs are DMS. I love the setup with the exception of the shocks.
But on a good note, my dealer said that the springs didn't void anything. In fact, I just took it in for a blown shock that has been going downhill since I drove through Louisiana back in June. It was covered under warranty. Beauty eh?

I'd go no larger than a solid 21mm in the rear. Larger than that the rear-end tends to be too stiff around corners and wants to slide out. If you're more into drag racing, the 25mm will stop the tail wagging effect from a stop.
Only thing negative I've read about the 35mm is that some folks have torn the mounts. The mounts aren't that beefy.

As far as the dealership goes... It's Courtesy (Formerly Don Mealey) Cheverolet in West Orlando (SR 50). I don't have any particular hookups other than buying my last 2 new cars from them. But the reason I bought them there was because of the way I had been treated. Every other Chevy dealership in Orlando had managed to majorly p!ss me off. Not just annoy me but actually cause me to never want to go back again. I asked my service rep (Andy Taylor - lol) before hand if he thought it would void the warranty and he was cool with it. He and the tech even gave me a few pointers on the install process. NO! Every dealership will not be the same. 90% of them will tell you to suck an egg.
*****EDIT***** - DMS used to be a sponsor but I don't see them in the list now. Hmmm. They just had a GP not too long ago. I'm sure you can still find their company info in there.

Andy's a frickin' awesome service rep. He's the best one I've encountered in the last 10 years. Tell'im I said Hi the next time you see him! If he doesn't remember me, remind him that Mike Norris installed my original heads/cam in one of Andy's service bays
By law, if you do a mod to your car and something breaks, something unrelated to the mod, they have to honor the warranty. Because the chance of breaking something by replacing springs is slim to none, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
I use the ST 35mm front bar and LG Motorsports 21.5mm rear bar and I like it. I still have my 19mm just in case I find out I have too much oversteer but I don't think that will be the case.

True, but I'm _amazed_ that the dealer did not use the springs as an excuse not to warranty the shock. That one they could have gotten away with.

That's the explanation. I can see a dealer using lowering springs as an excuse to not warranty a lot of suspension stuff. Drivetrain/interior/accessories would be a different story.

It's in your best interest to find a dealer who is mod friendly. Do this before you mod your car unless you're willing to let go of the warranty.

If you are concerned about your warranty you should talk to the service manager at your local dealer to see how they would handle a claim. If the first dealer is unreasonable, you could try another one as they differ quite a bit.

More to the point, since the dealer and manufacturers rep make the decision about what to cover, the burden of proof is on you, just like in any other civil dispute.

The shock story impresses me, I suppose if the service guy wanted to be a ****, he could refuse on the basis that the non-stock springs caused the shock to fail (possible if you were banging it into full compression) but that is a good service guy if he took care of you on that one.
