Wire Whheels on a Z28

I am thinking about getting a set of wire wheels (spokes) for my 95 Z28 Converetible. What is a good brand, I was thinking Dayton Wire Wheel Company. Are knockoff wheels strong and stable enuf for our cars or should I consider direct bolt ons. What size should I go for. Iweas thinking 16 to 18" rims. I have the 245/50/16 now. If I got to 17's I would need 275/40/17's. What size would I need in 18's? The car is NOT dropped. It will remain stock height. Any info would be great. Thanks y'all.

mike,
if you would run a set of 18's, a good tire size equal to 275/40ZR17's would be 275/35ZR18's
hope this helps ya!

oh yeah!
prepare yourself for the hater remarks. (because there is going to be some other board members that are going to give you a hard time about it)
i think it is good that some people do totally different things to their f-bodies that nobody else has done, but some people see it as a time to rip the person apart!
if you do something off the same ole same ole path, you know what i mean?

better get your flame suit on!

Thanks y'all. I know they'll be a pain int he a$$ to keep clean but I love the look. I was back home in Lauderdale for a bit and wire wheels are all over. I fell in love. As for those that don't like em, they are entitled to their opinion, I just don't want to hear it. And to those who post it anyway, f**k you in advance. To the rest thanks for your help and support.

Should I stay with 16's or go up to 17's or 18's? I want as much strength as possible. I do lots of driving. I just got back from a 5000 mile road trip this morning. There were a few nasty pot holes which I was not able to miss. No damage though. I am still running salad shooters. The car ran GREAT and it was nice to get back south again where I can drop the top. My welcome back to cold country was snow today. I hate it up here.

Put some hydrolics on too...and make it hop. Can you imagine a Camaro 3-wheelin down the skreet? I have NEVER seen a camaro do that...now THAT would be different!

I'm not really in to the low rider stuff. I just love the wire wheels. We've always had Caddies and Benzes with real wire wheels. My dad's old Ferrari BB 512 had wire wheels. I've never seen spokes on a Camaro. I want something different. The fact that I like wire wheels better than any other rim is a bonus. I'm just trying to figure out what is the best setup.

I'm thinking direct bolt on is better than knock off, but I don't know what brand is best. I think I'll stick with the 16" rim for stability because I do TONS of driving.

Definately don't get 16 inch. Get 18 inch Daytons because they are THE best. They're worht the extra money. With 18's you'll lose no stability at all. 16 wouldn't look right and is just too small these days.

I was just looking at Dayton's website. They have some sweet rims! Is it safe to put knock offs on our cars or should I look for dirext bolt ons. Dayton doesn't have too many direct bolt ons.

Killerjello, I don't care how you think they look. I like em and I'm gonna get em. I was asking whether the knockoffs are safe for an F body. Thanks for your input.

as far as tire size that all depends on the width of the rim.. just cuz its 16 17 or 18 dosent mean you need to run a 275 and what not. a 275 is fine on a 9.5 rim but if ur running 8 wide? a 275 wouldnt be your best option

Angry

Wire wheels are NOT unique, even on a Camaro. I saw one like that just yesterday. Trying to look like a pimp in a Camaro is stupid. It's a sports car for crying out loud, not some old boat. Get you an old Impala or something.
