This Wing Is Bad A**
IMO, that tall wing on the dodges was just as ugly as that spoiler on ebay, You can't convince me that that wing did anything, it was so small and thin it was rediculous looking. The whole car was ugly really and i've never understood why people thought it was great.
I mean any one could put a 13" wing on a car but they didn't do it because it is ugly and out of place. Now the 4th gen Trans Am or SS spoiler is what a spoiler should look like.

Hate to bust your bubble, and anyone else who has any scientific and theoretical reasons for the extra tall Superbird wings...but if YOU were to look at some Mopar history, you would all learn that the tall wing was so tall for only one reason. Mopar wanted a spoiler/wing that mounted to the body panels and not the rear deck lid. OK, so why the big wing? Because the trunk had to open, and it couldn't do it without the wing being made so tall! Why not change the design a little or just put it on the deck lid? Becuase, eh, it doesn't look bad, and looks like performance, so we'll leave it.
Ask anyone who really knows...
"Is a wing that tall really going to make any measurable downforce on the car at the speeds it is capable fo reaching? NO. On top fuel dragsters - yes! On Stock Car racing cars? No.
Study me out, and prove me wrong, and I will retract my post. But good luck.
That wing on e-bay is gay.

The A13 Option Package
Plymouth Road Runner Superbird
In 1969 Dodge came out with two versions of the Charger that were specially altered to give them an aerodynamic advantage over the competition. The first was the Charger 500 followed by the Charger Daytona. At first, Plymouth declined to participate in the aero program, but when they saw how successful things were for the Dodge Charger Daytona, Plymouth engineering developed its own "aero special" based on the Road Runner. The result of that effort is known as the "Superbird".
One extra bonus of Plymouths new "Aero Warrior" was that it helped lure "King Richard" (aka Richard Petty) back to Plymouth following a year of racing behind the wheel of a Ford product. Eight NASCAR superspeedway victories were won by Plymouth Superbirds in 1970. Richard Petty accounted for five of them.

And also, Introduction: The Plymouth Super Bird was created for the same reason as the Dodge Daytona -- a full on high speed race machine designed for the NASCAR races, but available to the public.

OR,---One of the more interesting chapters in technological history was the 1969 Dodge Daytona. This mass-produced vehicle had a drag coefficient (cd) of just 0.28, better than most cars made today. It would have produced even less drag, if it weren't for the tall spoiler (added to keep the rear wheels on the ground at high speeds). But, despite its 200 mph speed record,
AND,---The Daytona's rear wheels tended to lose their traction, until that massive spoiler was put on, because it carried a standard 440 cubic inch, 375-hp engine. The optional powerplant was the fabled 426 Hemi, a 425-hp (plus) monster designed for racing.

I'll give you the statement that says," On both models, the spoiler was two feet high so that the owner could open the trunk. Although it created quite an impression on the street, the wing did almost no aerodynamic good under 90 mph." BUT, I have to comment on the fact that you didn't bother to mention the fact that it is no good UNDER 90MPH! Not many NASCAR cars going a whole lot less than that. Look dude, the web is FULL of history on these cars. read some.

I don't feel that I need "read some" as I made the only comments I meant to make, and you backed them up for me by quoting (apparently) some credible site.
I am not arguing against you here...just trying to clarify why the wings were so tall. Besides that fact...the wing on e-bay is still gay.

-----I was just stating the simple FACT that the Mo-Par "AERO-WARRIOR" project was originally designed to allow Chrysler to run these mods on their NASCAR racing vehicles. Since I am correct in this there is no argument. I didn't design the wing, so therefore I won't make claims as to whether or not the size is effective. (Although some very highly paid designers must have thought so. AND the race results prove them right.) Now don't get me wrong, I do understand that most of the kids today think that 99% of things that look like that wing are purely for appearance. But then again, most of these kids actually think the stock wing on a 4th gen Camaro has some effect too! (Research it BEFORE posting on that comment. PLEASE!) As to the credibility of the SITES I posted, I didn't throw those sites up, so I can't vouch for them. There are a LOT of them though. (Draw your own conclusions.) I do have to admit that I was curious as to whether you would honor your statement --"Study me out, and prove me wrong, and I will retract my post. But good luck." Guess I was right there too!!

Hopefully now all the people who like to argue are happy.
Did I mention that I though the wing on e-bay is gay.
I still say that the Superbird's main reason for a tall wing is so the trunk will open - as that comment came from one of the head desingers on a special on American Muscle TV show.
