Vinyl stripes question...

Hello everyone. I've decided that I'm going to purchase the hugger orange 30th anniversary edition vinyl racing stripe kit from www.3rdgendecals.com, but I'm reading a lot about people saying that they will likely need replaced in a few years. So my question is, have any of you guys w/stripes considered having clear coat sprayed over top of your vinyl stripes? Do you think this would be a good or a bad idea??? Let me know what you all think. Thanks.

Re: Vinyl stripes question...

It' probably wouldn't be a bad idea until the vinyl flexes and cracks the clearcoat. And if you get a good Quality Vinyl it shouldn't fade for at least 7 years. By then when you take them off you'll really notice paint fade, as well as fade in the vinyl that hasn't been exposed to the daylight nearly as much. Your best bet is getting a good body shop to paint some stripes on.. More expenssive, better looking, no fade issues, no replacement issues..

Just my $.02...And my buddy owns a local Vinyl Graphics co. here in the Chicagoland area, so I know how the stuff works..

Re: Vinyl stripes question...

IMO, the purpose of doing vinyl stripes is cost and the uncertaintly that you might have with them and if you don't like them you can remove them

If you are talking about having clear put over them then they'll be permanent. Since they are not going to be able to be removed and you are already going to the expense to do paint work (clear coat) why not just go ahead and have the stripes painted on there? 30th ann stripes are an easy layout for a paint guy and he doesn't want to mess with the layout you could always buy a stencil.

Good luck!
