Vinyl stripes or not?
Vinyl stripes or not?
I was just wondering if I could get some opinions about vinyl stripes. I am interested in getting a set of black 30th anniversary Z28 stripes for my white Z28 but some people told me the quality was poor and after a few years they would fade or peel. I had thought about having them painted but it's just too expensive so that's not really an option.
Keeping in mind my car isn't driven very often and is ALWAYS garage kept, do you think that stripes would be ok and that they would last pretty long? Or should I just keep it stock looking?

Re: Vinyl stripes or not?
Since you have a white car, I say go for the stripes. I had a white v6 before and it had them. I am not sure how long they last, since they were on when I bought it. But I am pretty sure they were at least 2 years old.

I say "Booooooo!!!!!
" to all you nay-sayers!!!
Do the stripes!
If your car is garage kept, and not driven all the time, they'll last for a long time, and stay looking good
. My car is daily driven, winters and everything
, and the stripes are starting to show their age after about ~1 year-and-a-half
. BUT, I love how they look, and eventually I'd like to have them painted on, but for now, the vinyl works for me

Of course, the F body is neither, but they are going for a clean look, and I think the stripes take away from that look.
Personally, the only stripes I like on any 4th Gen. are red 35th Cars with the factory stripes and the 30th Ann. white/orange cars.
But, if you want stripes, and paint is too expensive, I'd say with your conditions the vinyl would probably suit you well. Just get something different man - black is the most popular. I have still yet to see a white/navy blue combo, which I think would look best.

Gray stripes on a white car = badass.
Oh yea and go for the vinyl it will last for a long time. Just have someone who knows how to work with it do it. That stuff is wayy too hard to work with.

No
. Why should they try to copy the (clean) "look" of the exotic sports cars?
F-bodies (even 4th-gens
) are still in the "muscle car" category. They are descendants of the early muscle cars, including 1st gen F-bodies, which also came with and look good with racing stripes on them, as well as the Chevelles / Novas which you mentioned
.Obviously it all comes down to personal preference though
. You might like Fords, and I like Chevy's!
