Vinyl stripes

Has anyone put on the vinyl stripes? Is it really hard to do buy yourself? Should I take it to a body shop or somewhere to get them to do it? Thanks!

I would have to recommend against going with vinyl. I put two silver stripes on mine in vinyl and about a year later they had a brownish look to them. Took it back to the guy who put them on and he said it was some sort of mildew/mold. He pulled them off and painted them on for free. He didn't clear them in so now (5 years later) they'er faded and chalky. One of those things I wish I hadn't done altogether. Just thought I'd share my experience with you.

It depends on the grade of vinyl as well. Check out 3rdgendecals.com...that's where I got my silver hockey stripes (pics in the sig) and they've been on for over a year and a half...no problems...

Cool

I wouldn't buy cheap stripes. They will fade. mildew, come off in car washes, etc. I would also pay some one olse to install them. Consittering how much money most of us have spent on our cars, saving $100-150 is meaningless on something this highly visable. One year from now do you want to be making excuses about why your stripes loot like crap or why there are bubbles in them or they are not straight.

Don't get those off eBay. For a good quality vinyl striping material, you'll have to spend more than the 40 bucks from eBay.

If they are selling them for $40 then they are using "window sign" vinyl and not the good stuff. Use the good vinyl and you'll be OK but do NOT buy the cheap stuff or you'll be replacing it in about a year.

As has been mentioned, www.3rdgendecals.com is good and they do use the good stuff

I got mine from a local sign shop. It's made from the company 3M and it's been on for about 2 years. every so often (6 months) I just get rubbing compound and clean the white stripe from turning color. If i had the money I would of went with paint on stripe.

Well, that is true in MOST cases. However, I sell vinyl decals for less than almost anyone out there and use the highest quality vinyl. Soooo, in my case it may not be true

I'll back Brent up on this. He does great work for a great price! I've ordered from him a number of times.
