VHT application questions

I just got done puttin three light coats of VHT on my taillights, but as normal it looks grainy. Can you wet sand the VHT to make it look smooth? I checked the back of the can, but I didn't see any comments on sanding or wet sanding. Thanks guys.

ok, I wet sanded my taillights with some 1000 grit paper and sanded one a little to much. I don't want my lights any darker, but how would I get rid of the sanding marks by not painting over them? Could I wet sand with a 1200 or 1400 and get rid of them?

Honestly if it looks grainy chances are you have too light of coats on so it never got that 'wet' look. If it really bothers you, I'd clean the taillights w/ some carb cleaner (won't melt your plastic) and give them 1 to 2 wet coats making them look wet but being careful not to get any drips. I have two coats on mine and they are real dark but glassy smooth.

Also you could use a real high grit like you are thinking and get them smooth, then apply a nice wet coat of clear. You can fix em more than likely!

They look good after sanding them down. I didn't put on heavy coats because I didn't want them real dark. I sprayed three light coats on them, just to kinda give them a smoke effect.

I sanded them down a little more and then applied one thick dark layer. They still are no where near completely black, but I can't see the sanding marks anymore. They are still pretty smooth too after the last application so I am just going to clear coat them now.
