VERY unique Navigation install *pics inside*
Well guys I did something probably no one has ever done before with some success so far. I purchased a Chrysler RB1 in dash navigation unit (made by alpine for chrysler). It took some dremeling and special wire harnesses top get it to work but its in place and looks AMAZING. Only problem is after buying it and installing it I found out this unit uses a special PCI-bus input wire which allows it to get vehicle speed info and possibly other info that I cant seem to duplicate from my camaro. I believe this single wire comes from the cars body control module and is digital. Hooking my VSS wire to the bus wire going into unit will not do the trick. The map will only show my turn and no movement. So for now voice guidance and mapping isnt working. If there are any of you out there that are VERY knowledgeable with vehicle electrical systems and more specifcally mopar systems I need your help BAD!!! Anyway here are some pics let me know what you think.

very very nice. i used to hate these until i drove my buddy's 330i with a nav system. i could really get used to having one of these in my Z.
wish i could help you more. i'm sure you're already aware of this, but when i was re-doing my stereo system, i seem to recall a green wire that sent a speed signal that was used for the 'speed compensated volume' on the stock deck...

yup and that signal is analog and does nothing when hooked to the PCI-bus wire going to the navi unit. I paid a little over $1000 for the unit brand new came with manual, GPS antenna, and the latest navigation DVD software. The install went so well I really dont wanna turn around and sell it :-( still hoping there is a way.

No it does not play MP3's, and it does not play DVD movies either. It is a DVD-rom and infact some systems such as ones in BMW's there are ways to get it to play the movies. Havent yet researched to see if you can with this unit.

That looks like an extremely nice and clean install!
I really hope you can find out the answers to your problems - I would hate it for you if you had to remove it or anything of the sort.
You may want to post about it here...most of the people there are very knowledgable. There may even be other sections of that forum that could help you out.

To my knowledge, you will not get the VSS out of the BCM.
What you might be able to do is make your own. What I mean by that is figure out what kind of signal the unit needs. Just as a rough example, you would then put a piece of foil/reflective tape, whatever on the wheel. The sensor would mount to something on the front suspension and pick up the foil/reflective tape and send this back to the unit. That is a very rough idea but might work. Just need to find out what the signal is that the unit is looking for.

I think he paid around $1500, but he has everything a stock sterio and a P.C. offers in his jeep (radio,cd,dvd,mp3,internet & of course, navigation with all the goodies) the possiblities are endless....
the thread has everything you will need to install, i cant wait untill i have $1500 to spare
