That looks amazing, I really was astonished at how nice that looks. Congrats on an excellent job. Wanna do one for me too?

Nice install but a navigation unit is for dummies, monthly fees too. Too dumb to find your way around and you should have bought the Alpine IVA-D900 or 901 screen. Nor much more than you paid if you shop around, it plays dvd's, MP3's, CD's or video games. The screen is motorized and retracts into the dash, the new 901 is a push button screen and they both have 1.15 million pixels, 4 times sharper picture than the nearest competition. The 901 also has a rear-view camera option for the screen, throwaway that rear-view mirror, you wont need it with this baby. I hear the Clarion screen is good bang for the buck too. The navigation unit you have does very little, just how often are you going to need directions? If your shopping skills were better than your install skills you would have made a different choice I believe.

Maybe he wanted the factory look that you cant get with a single din in a gm dash. Looks very good and good luck with it, you should try a post in the audio section if you havent already.

Well first off the reason I went this route is because I dont want one of those screens that pops out of my dash. Looks tacky to me. Specially when the screen comes out and covers up my air vents and some other buttons. Not to mention this option will cost probably about double if not more to get all the features you mentioned. I payed $1000 for this unit brand new with everything. Thats not bad considering its a full out navigation with voice guidance and all. And where do you come up with monthly fees???? I have 5 friends with brand new vehicles with navigation and they dont have any fees, and I have tried my RB1 nav in my girlfriends chrysler for a week with full functions. Not sure where you came up with that. Either way its unique and doesnt look aftermarket.

For anybody other than a traveling salesman, these are nothing more than a fancy toy. BUT, a damn cool fancy toy! I'd get one myself but not because I can't follow directions... but because I like cool gadgets. My local buddy just bought an $800 setup for his wife who has lived in this small town for years and mostly just goes to town and back. Did she need it... nope, but he is a gadget guy and she wanted it so he got it for her and thinks it's "cool". Sure, the money could be better spent elsewhere I'm sure. Do we really need 400 hp in our F-Bodies... NOPE. Do we have it... yep, many of us do. Why, because it is a big toy and we like our toys.

So, while these navigation units may not be "necessary" for 99% of the population, they are cool toys and I don't see people who have them as "too dumb" to find their way around... they just like their gadgets and toys
