Toggle Switches
Toggle Switches
Hey,
I'm looking for some toggle switches:
1) "Accessory kill switch" to kill power to my AC and my stereo
2) LED on switch
Going to be mounting small red LEDs throughout the inside of the dash and by the foot pedals so there's a slight red glow to everything.
Anywho, how should one go about mounting these switches, and where? It'd be nice to do something in one of these spots:
1) by the drunk release button
2) replacing the cigarette lighter
Where else do you guys recommend mounting them? Any specific panels / items I need that will bolton to allow me to do this? Or just drill a hole and mount it to the outside? Any input for this type of thing would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin

I don’t have pics though.
On the 97+ cars you can get a stock panel to cover the storage slot to the left of the lighter in the console. It comes on convertible cars and has an opening for the switch to operate the top. You can get this switch from the dealer as well to snap right in the panel and use it to switch whatever you hook it to.
It looks very stock and blends right in. There is also enough room on the panel to mount a gauge next to the switch or room for a couple more switches.
You can also remove plugs from the holes above the radio, next to the ASR and foglamp switches. Just remove the plugs and you can have as many as 4 stock switches up there. If you have ASR, then you just get 2 stock foglamp switches and use them to run whatever you want. If you don't have ASR, you get 3 switches.
If you do both mods, you can pickup as many as 6 auxillary switches, all stock appearing.
Good luck
Dave
Btw: You could do both mods mentioned, and then replace the lighter with the "Start" button designed for a Honda, I think, and have a 7th switch. Would look very trick. Alot of folks are actually hooking up the start button to start the car, but that is kinda useless IMO... I would get the switch and use it to operate something more functional.

The 'Camaro' nameplate is the plug... it covers 2 switch holes. Pops right out and foglamp switches pop right in.
On the convertible switch plate:
I think you can flip it and put the stock switch on the left or right. I have seen the plate with the switch to the right, with a gauge on the left of it. I have seen the switch on the left with a push button switch (red) to the left.
You have to buy the convertible top switch separately.
I have looked at the plate a little harder and have come to the conclusion that even though there is enough room for 3 of the switches in there, you wouldn't be able to get the other 2 stock switches to look right by cutting the plate. It is better suited to aftermarket switches or a gauge with it's own bezel to hide the cut lines. A factory switch wouldn't do that.
So it appears you have room for 2 extra factory switches up top, one in the plate, and whatever you want to put in the plate next to the switch.
I have some pics of the plate with the stock switch on the left and a custom start switch installed on the right. This will give you an idea.
I like the start button, but think that I would install it and hook it to operate my garage door opener...
Just some ideas

Just read a post from a convertible T/A owner...
Apparently the Pontiacs came with a dual switch plate if the car was convertible and had traction control.
There would be no more room for other additions, but you would have 2 stock switch openings that would support either fog or top switches. ASR too, but I don't think the ASR switch funtions like a regular toggle switch so it might be hard to adapt it to another use.

So, you're saying you can get that bottom plate with 2 toggle switches? (are those toggle, or rocker)?
It looks fairly easy.
Here is the install page: http://members.***.net/pitre/s2000sw.htm
The dual switch panel has the roof switch like in the pics I posted, and next to it is the traction control switch. Just like stock switches... a form of toggle switch.
Doesn't really matter, the panel is sold separate from the switches. You could buy the panel and snap in any of the stock switches that suit your needs. I would be willing to bet that besides the 'TOP', 'FOG', and 'ASR' switches that the single window switches would snap in there too if they fit your plans.
You would have to source the switches you need from a salvage yard or GM.
Good luck
