Sorry, but another question about VHT...

OK, so I put three coats of VHT and three coats of clear coat on my tail lights. Then I tried to polish them up and that is when my problems came. I used 400 grit paper and wetsanded the first one. That really messed it up, and made it look like crap.

I had to put another coat of VHT on each one and a couple of coats of clear to get them back to looking ok.

Ok, my question....How do I polish these up to look good?? They dont look that good right now. I dont know if I messed up with the VHT, if I need a different grit paper, or some other method of polishing them up.

I will have to put pictures later, my wife took the car out of town. Thanks in advance.

Try a higher grit sandpaper. I ended up putting 8-9 clear coats on mine, and they came out nice.... i'll find the links to the pics of mine..

I'd start with about 600 or 800 grit sandpaper, 400 is just too coarse. After the 6 or 800, move up to 1500-2000 grit. Then you can polish it with a compound and bring out the shine.

ok, thanks. I guess I am off to the store to get some sandpaper. I plan on working on it tonight.

I already have the compound, but I have a question about that. what do I use to take the compound off and polish it?? I have a rotary tool with a soft bristle brush. Is that what I use?? And should I put a few more coats of clear on them? I only put three on it.

I've always just hand polished mine...may not work the best but it's not too bad.

Ok, i read all the posts and i understand its best to start out with 6-800 grit first then move to 1500-2000 grit to polish them up. Good concrete information.

But what i need to know is if anybody has a link of hot to apply the vht to the tail lights, like as in the whole procedure.

I need to know how to prep it and What Clear Coat To Get.....

TIA
