Yeah! Make it and add "Suspension" as well! (for LOWERING suspension posts only, racing suspension posts would still go in the Drag Racing/AutoX forums)

Should we create a forum for Wheels and Tires?

If your gonna do suspension make something like suspension and braking combined so it gets more attention. Plus that would clean a bunch of lt1 tech traffic too.

Brakes....good one...I love brakes
Yeah I think appearance should be left to glowing gauges and ground effects and stuff. I like the idea of making a new forum for rims and tires, suspension and what not. I think ZLT195 made some good points too with the basic question stickies.
I think the Appearance forum should be left as is. I like coming to a central location to look for all appearance related items like wheels, hoods, ground effects, wings, paint schemes, etc. I think there is a benefit to having all this stuff in one place. Plus, this forum isn't all that busy. I have set up to view 10 days in my options and here in this forum that equates to typically around 10 pages. For the LT1 Tech forum, it fluctuates around 50 to 57 pages usually for 10 days.
So, even though I think it would be good to keep the Appearance forum as is, I do think it is a great idea to make a suspension related forum!
That would help to reduce the number of posts in the LT1 Tech forum since suspenion posts are primarily posted there (most of the time they are not autocross specific so I don't move them to that forum and just leave them as is). The only real time there are suspension related posts here in the Appearance Forum is when people only care about how a set of certain springs will make their car look. Because they only care about the looks, I usually just leave them here when the questions are asked in this manner.
I guess the main reason why I think wheels related posts should stay here in the Appearance forum is because like 95% of the wheels posts are appearance related... like, "How would these wheels look"... "What do you guys think of these wheels" and stuff like that. Only a very small amount of wheel posts are tech related with question like "Will this aftermarket wheel handle the stresses of hard cornering?" or "What does this wheel weigh in comparison to this other wheel?". For those type questions, they can go in either the tech forum or here so I generally leave them where the person originally posted it.
If a wheel/suspension forum is created, it'll mix up primarily opinion only based questions (like "how do you think this whee looks") with tech related questions about suspension components.
Those are my thoughts and just something for you to consider

I don't see the need for a new section to be linked to reducuing the load on the appearance forum. I don't think many of us have problems staying current on this forum as rthe number of new daily posts is not excessive.
I would suggest trying to reduce the load on the LT1 forum as that is so busy it is very difficult to keep up.
While adding a suspension forum may help a bit - I suspect people will still post suspension topics in (drag, autocross, appearance, lt1 tech, ls1 tech 3rd gen and so on ) so searching for an answer will be time consuming and a lot of folks will likely still post in lt1 tech, as the impression is that everyone goes there and therefore questions are more likley to be answered there.
I do like the ls1.com set up that seperates tech issues into: general tech help, engine related, drivetrain and also splits out appearance and suspension. Looking at the posts by topics on that site - suspsension is pretty small - drivetrain is about 3x as busy. As drivetrain is the same issue for ls1 ans lt1 it may be a better candidate to split out, in order to reduce load. It's also a better stand alone topic that suspension, wheels and tires.
My $0.02

Personally, I think wheels are a big part of appearance.
If you wanted to add a suspension and traction section dealing specifically with "how best to stick to the road", that might be a good idea. It would keep those type of questions out of the tech forums and since they are virtually the same points for lt1's and ls1's alike, it may make more sense to have one forum for these issues.
It would definitely be better than having to search two sections for "what wheels look better" type of questions.
Just my two cents...

another thing, I don't understand why they put the appearence section under care and maintainence, i know it don't make a differnece, only that we have to scroll down a little more. i think we should keep as little sections as possible, it like already there is only an average of 5 new threads a day in the apperence section so breaking up even more would be a PIA.
Newbs might not remember, but old timers do. This forum was put here to talk about tires and rims and the occasional wing, cuz there were too many questions about them in the tech forums. This "disAppearance (of good taste)" forum has deteriorated into what pretty lights should I use under my car, are my taillights better bling, or bling bling, etc etc.
I think the wheel/tire section would get allot of use.
Perhaps this is true, but that is what you might just read into it. The Lounge has turned to the "Atkin's: How ill informed can one be on the human body works regime" as well as "Therapy is only a click away." From this maybe we should also include a few sections entitled "The Love shack" and "The Pissing Contest (for all the workout related questions)."

I think it could be a good idea because most of the time, the only reason I come in here is to look at new rims. But I agree with Brent that it is also nice to have everything in one spot to check out the occasional new hood that someone gets. Seeing pictures of everyones car is the coolest thing. It helps me to decide on rims, (which im still working on) color combos and everything else. IMO, i'm not sure if there really enough traffic to split them. Although it might increase if they do get split.
BTW: did you decide on rims yet Jay?
Edit: Oh and also, the one thing I do really like about LS1.com is how you can read the first post on a topic by just running the cursor over it, thats a really cool feature.

I voted for "wheels and tires" only and not suspension mixed in.
There are so many different types of suspension set ups. Lowering, auto x-ing, drag racing....etc. It could be a bit confusing.
Some suspension parts used for lowering and auto x-ing may be the same so where do you post your question?
And the idea about making a sticky on the 17x11's is definately a good idea because somebody asks about that every day.

He already typed out just about every point I was thinking before reading his post.If I have suspension question, I primarily go to the Auto-X section anyway to look them up - the guys who really know the suspension stuff post in there a lot anyhow.
