Rim Widening?

I have heard of this...Has anybody on here done that?? What does it all involve?? I figured you'd have to cut the rim apart,on each side, and ad 1" on each side, then weld back together?? Or is there a better way?? Pro/Cons to doing this?? I need help on this issue. I want to do it to my 17x9 SS rims, for the rear, and make them 17x11's

Did you look at the writeup on ws6.com?

I have a friend who used the guy in Monrovia to narrow a set of 17x9 SS wheels to use as "skinnies".... the workmanship was extremely good. I have some pictures of the narrowed wheels on the bottom of this page.

When you see the extent of the welding on the back of the rims, you will understand why you can't weld on the front of the rims, and why the "extra" has to be added at the rear.

Most likely it would be cheaper to buy 11" rims outright and then sell your 9" rims to offset the cost.

You can see those rims "in use" in most Art Carr tranny ad's. The car is pulling the front wheels... a 30th SS convertible. He ran with those wheels all the way to the mid 9's, and only replaced the 17x6 SS skinnies when he dropped it hard from a 3-foot wheelstand, the rim cut right through the $200+ Pirelli tire he had on the front, and sent the car into the wall. The wheel survived with no damage though.....

I think it indicates that the quality of the workmanship is just as good as it "looks".
