this is actually a common thing that most srt-4 owners do. the merealy take off the gauge overlay and replace the bulbs, so it looks like this:

i havent had a chance to take apart the z28 gauges yet but im sure you can just switch out the bulbs like it has been done on the dodges.

 

The stock overlays, from what I've heard atleast, have a blue film on the back where the light shines through. Because of the film, it makes using certain color LEDs impossible. I have aftermarket gauges and I just swapped the bulbs out for LEDs and I noticed with my red LEDs, the blue portions of the gauges dont light up at all.
