Quick wheel fitment question....

The wheels I want are 19x8". I know, a little skinny, but anyway, I have two questions.

They have a 38mm offset, and a 2" lip, if that part is even relevant. Will these be close to the fender? I kind of hope they will stick out further than the stock 16X8" wheels, since those sit in too far for my taste. For comparison, what is the offset on stock wheels?

My second question is what tire size I can use? I think the typical size for a 8" wheel is 245, but could I go up to 255s or even 275s?

As always, thanks

this concerns the 8inch width... no it won't stick out any further... I have 17 by 9... that sticks out REAL nice, everyone says "man i don't really like camaro's but that looks really cool how those wheels stick out that extra bit"
Though i like my 17's a lot.. 18's would be cool too...
I would try going 18 x 9.

YES.... an 8" wide wheel with 38mm offset will stick out 17mm (2/3") further than the stock 8" wide 55mm offset wheel. It will not be outside the fender line, but the wheel will be moved toward the outside. Won't look bad either, it will be about the same location as the outside edge of the popular 17x9.5 56mmm ZR1's.

You are pretty much limited to a 245/35-19 with an 8" wide rim. Even that is on the narrow side for an 8" rim, since most manufacturers recommend a rim width of 8 - 9.5" for the 245/35. To go to a 275/30-19, you would need at least a 9" rim, prefferably 10" wide.

Hmm...did the place give you any trouble when you had them mounted? I am going to call the local place tomorrow and see what they say.

Go to Tire Rack. Enter the size tire you want, and it will give you a bunch to choose from. For any tire that interests you, click on "specs".... that will give you a table with all the dimensions, including the manufacturer's recommended rim size for that tire.

Putting too large a tire on too narrow a rim causes excessive flexing of the belts and sidewall, leading to overheating and premature cord wear... none of which will be visible or know to you, until its too late and the tire fails. It also affects contact patch and tread wear pattern. A vehicle that has been fitted with the incorrect tire size, in excess of the manufaturer;s recommendation could leave you liable in a civil or criminal suit resulting from an accident.

Virtually any size tire can be jammed on any size wheel, but that doesn't make it a smart idea.
