Proper way to "Dye" plastic panels?

I was watching Trucks a couple weeks ago and Stacey was doing a piece on the proper way to dye plastic. I think im gonna swap my cloth interior to black leather and i have to dye the trim pieces so that they match the black leather. So does anyone remember or know the proper way to dye plastic?

I would think that the boiling would work more efficiently, don't you???

It should be EASY to change from tan to black right???

to boil, i would get some propane stoves and a big metal tub...

won't the boiling water melt the plastic at all????

where do you get the bye for boiling?

Yeah i was referring to the spray dye. But on Trucks he said that you had to "treat" the plastic before spraying the dye. And i forgot the "treat" part of the process.

I made this same post on ls1 tech, I want to to do a two tone black and tan like on 01-02 cars. I think i might have to use the dye, you spray on because I wnat to keep the tan leather insert. I would imagine that regular rubbing alcohol would clean the plastic just fine, only 75 cents for a bottle. They say the spray dye can work on carpet.

Vinyl dye will work on just about anything and rubbing alchohol should clean up your parts. On my dupli-color can it recomends washing the parts with a good dish detergent and using a wire brush to clean out all the little cracks.

Yea, if you hit the parts with some dawn, got them clean, then once overed it in some rubbing alchol, sure they would be fine. No need tp spend 10$ on parts cleaner. How well does this stuff come out looking, does it look factory or what? How the heck are you guys going to boil a big ol sail pannel? I'm thinking the spray on stuff is the best choice, I just want it coming to look ok and not ship and look like trash.

I did all of my interior not too long ago. I used the inetrior spray made by i forgot who. It was real easy and is pretty idiot proof. First i removed all the interior panels, dash trim and seats. All the plastic and leather was cleaned with windex and then alcohol, then i sprayed away. It doesnt drip or blotch at all like paint. I first tryed it on an interior piece off another camaro and it doesnt come off unless it gets worn off (doesnt chip). I also did the carpet. All my friends think i got lucky at the junk yard.
