I bought the kit with the cleaners and everything in it.....

Used it on fresh bare sheetmetal and did 3 coats....the stuff peels easy. I can peel it with my finger nail. Should it be primed first or not?

I was pretty dissapointed in it

 

The surface need to be fairly rough for it to stick. If you sanded it too smooth it may do that. Also depends on how quickly you put the other coats on. The bottom may not be dry enough. Hard to say really, I haven't ever had a problem with it.

 

I didn't sand the metal at all.....it was new mild steel sheet metal..so it was smooth. Maybe I should sand it a little.

After the first coat I waited for about 10 hours til I put another on...it was dry to the touch..maybe I should wait 24 hours.

 

If you don't want to sand the base metal down, you can use self-etching primer.

 

Almost all paints need some "tooth" to grab on to. Did it come with instructions?

 

It sticks alot better on rough surfaces. You can try sandblasting the part in question, reprep it, and it will stick. Just my .02

 

well I used it on my firewall...so I can't sand blast it. I allready broke 2 windshields this year So I may just sand it....when I get around to it, I'm pretty lazy to be honest

 

where did you get your por-15 and what exactly do you need? I'm going to use it on my 35's frame...

 

I called got it right from www.por15.com as there were no distributors around me. Is the frame going to be blasted/clean or rusty.
To be safe id use their mariene clean, metal ready, and then por 15.

 

it will be wire wheeled to bare clean metal. is that a 3 step process? what is mariene clean? thanks

 

Its just a dirt/ grease remover. Check out the site it should answer your questions and their 1800 number is actually helpful

 

been using it for years, just used some last week on my gas tank. 10 hours really isn't enough time to base how long paint is going to keep from scratching but reguardless you should use the etching primer on the paint if you are painting bare surface that is truly clean. if you don't then let it cure much, much longer before you do that. typically at least 24 hours. it isn't a miracle paint that will restore your metal or keep it perfect forever. it does do what it promises though and lasts pretty well!
