pen stripes ?!

my '02 z28 has black pin stripes down both sides (can be seen in my sig). i dont like them there, i'd rather it just be bare... and im pretty sure i've never seen another z with the pin stripes like that, which leads me to believe that the previous owner had them put on.

is there any safe way to have those removed, or any cheap way to remove them yourself?

thanks for the help

Re: pen stripes ?!

take a hairdryer and heat them up and pull them off, after your done wash with dish soap, then dry and either use a polish or wax on the area where you washed with the dish soap (b/c it strips wax, but also cleans off excess adheasive very well) hope this helps

Re: pen stripes ?!

No Camaros came new from GM with pin stripes. However, used car dealers almost always put pin stripes on cars. Just use a hair dryer and slowly pull them off.

Well, I don't want to put my foot in my mouth, so I'll just say that none of the new Camaros came from the factory with pin stripes. I suppose some dealerships may have put them on, but I'm not sure why they would, since they were brand new cars.

I used to detail cars at a dealership. This is just another way for the dealer to make a bunch more money. Pin stripe guy comes in and stripes about 15 cars in an hour or so. I've watched them stripe a car in under 5 minutes. Charges the dealer like $8 each. Dealer turns around and charges customer $199 for the pin stripes. When customer says they didn't really care if they were on there or not the dealer says... dang, sorry, we already paid to have them put on there so that's part of the price now. You just have to know better and say "Wrong. If you want to sell me the car I won't be paying for those stripes."

Dealer did this to me on a 1990 IROC I was buying new. Was looking at it and we about had the deal done. Came in to finish the deal and car had pin stripes on it with a jacked up price. Argued with them for a couple minutes saying I wasn't paying for them and I knew how this gimmick worked and the price was to be as we talked about before or I was leaving. They said "OK" and I bought the car

Thanks for the advice Brent. I bet that will come in handy when I buy the '96 Z28 or SS I am saving up for in the future.

Usually they stripe mostly just new cars. But, there are a couple dealerships here (Chevy dealer actually) which DO have the graphics people come in and do graphics to used cars. Typically this only really works when they have the price of the car listed and then all the "extras" are priced along side of it thus adding to the sticker price of the car. Might not work as well when buying a used car because they don't usually break this stuff out like they do on the new ones
