Painting the underside of your car?

I was under my car fixing a loose exhaust tip and was looking at how all the metal has surface rust on it, and got to thinking, what if I wire brushed (or soemthing) to get the rust off and then paint it a flat black.
I dont know how possible this would be even, just though that it would look good and couldnt hurt, as it should keep the rust from coming back.
What do you guys think about this idea? and how should I go about doing it?

I did this when I first bought my car. It was a wisconsin car since it was made, and its still going to be a daily driver for me. I put the car up on Jack stands and I went over the majority of the under body with a wire brush and some Navel Jelly. (Navel Jelly eats rust, though look out, it also eats paint.) Anyways, after I got rid of the rust, I took quite a few cans of spray under coating and and put a nice thick layer over most of the underside of the car. I also pulled off all the wheels and did the wheel wells.

Yeah, the undercoating is tar-like. If you use it, make sure you wear old clothes, it won't come off.

A little paint never hurt anything either. Nothing I'm working on ever goes back on my car without some type of restoration, i.e. paint or polishing.

Try POR 15 instead of undercoating. Undercoating adds weight. POR15 encapselates any rust that is left afer you wire brush. It dries smooth and will never chip, even if you hit it wiyh a hammer.

that por15 stuff looks pretty good, but 5 steps, lots of time, but seems to be the best so far.
Using undercoating could make it difficult to do suspention mods later, wouldnt it?
