Well I took mine down to bare plastic the first time, (now i'm smoothing the lettering off completely..) but I've heard you can just start with 400girt and rough up the paint very good and go straight to primer after cleaning the panel. If the paint is in good condition you can go that route.

Are you going to do satin black or gloss and clear coat?

If the paint is nice and smooth, start out with 800 grit wet/dry sandpaper and make sure its wet. Get it perfect, then you can either primer or go straight to black. If its not quite perfect, start with 400git, move up to 800, the prime.

How are you going to paint it? Rattle cans?

Ok good, I rattled canned mine the first time and I did get it nearly perfect but the amount of work trying to get the runs out was not worth it at all.

Post up pics when you are done!
