Painting questions, how much to get and blending?

I am getting ready to paint my 1/4 panels. Both sides need to be painted. I am either gonna go ppg or dupont. It is possible that i will paint my ttop roof and/or front bumper as well if i have enough chemicals left over.
How much primer, basecoat and clearcoat should i get?
I was thinking maybe a pint of base and a quart or clear.

Any recommendations on blending as well? I figure i am probably going to do the entire quart panels or most of them. I hear you are supposed to go a little bit onto the next panel, can anyone explain exactly what i am supposed to do?

Btw, can anyone verify my paint code, It is a 97 black camaro. I believe it is 83/55 but its faded. It is possible that it is 85/55. Does anyone know for sure or how i can figure out?

Ok, go with dupont. Ask for straight black, dupont code 99. You do not need to blend black. Just paint what you need to. Get qt. of both color and clear. You don't want to run out in the middle of painting. You can use any left over later for something else. Get v-7600 and 7607 activator if available in your area. Easy to use and quick drying with nice gloss. I use it all the time! I have 22 years painting exp. if you need anymore help, just ask.

Dirtracer,
Just curious about how much paint is required to do a whole car correctly. I am thinking about painting my Z with Electron Blue and adding Metal Flake as well, after some practice of course. I am having a 3 stall garage built and plan to setup up an isolation bay for when I paint.
Any good sources to read up on that you can suggest.
BTW Welcome to the site.

Painting really isn't that bad, goto harbor freight to buy your gun, line drier, filter, etc.
I would make sure you mask off everything good. Get some good lighting and possibly a hepa air filter and a good compressor.

Thanks, Got most of the tools already but I may spring for a high quality gun as well.

To do a complete car, 3 qts. unreduced should be enough. After it is reduced it will make up to 4-5 qts. The amount of clear wil depend on what clear you choose to use. A two part clear will take up to a gallon plus activator. A three part clear will take about two/three qts. plus activator and reducer. Your paint supplier should be able to help you decide. If you are going to use actual metal flake on top of color, you will need to apply about 5 coats of clear. Keep that in mind when buying clear. Then wet sand and buff till it is smooth. Best of luck to you.

Also, if you are doing a color change(including all the jambs) add one qt. to total color amount needed.
