Question Painting Questions????

I recently got into a fender bender and need to replace the hood and front facia (bumper). Anyway I bought a RED hood and front facia from someone. My car's color is PURPLE PEARL. My questions are:
1)Do I put on the hood and facia on the car and take it somewhere to get repainted.
2)Is it better to take the hood and ficia to get painted while it is off the car. I'd still take the car so they could match the color.
3)Can I prep the hood and front facia. How do you do it. Will I save any money this way. Is it worth it or should I leave it up to the professionals.
4)How much do you guys think i'm looking at to get a good paint job.
5)Should I paint the whole car?

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Cool

Hey Mike! You're only about an hour away from me My SS is currently in the shop getting painted/fixed too. I went a little overboard and am having the color changed. I saw the car today and the only panels still left on the car are the rear quarter panels

Anyway, to try and answer your questions...

1) No, take the parts to the repair shop.
2) No, with that color, they will probably need to paint/blend your doors as well depending on how picky you are.
3) No. You'll probably do more harm than good
4) By the time they color match all the way back to the doors, I'm guessing $1500 to $2000. I'm having my car repainted and the color changed by a reputable shop... $5000. Even their standard paint jobs run usually at least $3000. You typically get what you pay for in this area IMO. Speaking of which, if you want a really good job, wait until you see my car and then get a quote from the place doing mine... it's only about 60 miles from Tampa.

Cool

Brent,
I was looking at your site about 2 weeks ago and I remember seeing you do a piece about getting your front bumber repainted. You met the guy at the paint shop and he came to your house to paint it. I was actually thinking about getting in touch with you guys and getting mine done. Anyway like 2 days later I get into a little accident and need a hood and front bumper. So I'm almost back where I started only I now need the hood painted. Oh and I also need the red paint striped first. Is the guy who painted your other facia the one who is doing the SS? I remember you posting that the guy did it for like $60. I believe you even posted his card. I think I'm going to end up taking your advise and take the hood and ficia to a bodyshop and have them strip and repaint it. I just want my car to look sharp. I just don't want to be able to see any sort of paint blend. Everyone has been telling me that my color is hard to blend. If I can't notice then I will be happy .

Question

How can I prep the front facia? I've decided on not messing with the hood. I'll let the body shop strip and repaint the hood.
Isn't there a soluion I can buy at Home Depot where I can just apply and wipe off the red paint from the front facia. I think I'm going to end up painting the whole car. I don't want to cut any corners. But I'm all over the save money program.
So should I at least prep the front Facia? And if so What can I buy to take off the paint?

Thanks,
Mike
