Question Painting Car

I'm thinking about getting my 89 RS Camaro painted, it has original paint and is pretty bad condition. I got a quote for $800 to do the whole thing by a retired auto paint guy who seems like he will do a professional job, strip down, repair all the little dings, prime, wet sand and 2 stage paint. I dont want to waste my money at the econo job for 299. Do you think $800 is fair? The guy is going to keep the car one week.

$800 is more than reasonable if he is also doing all the jambs (hood, hatch, doors). Most paint shops will charge double or triple your quote for a complete repaint, triple with the stripping.

that price sound real good if he does a good job. here is some food for thought, my friend just had his green mustang repainted orange and said some thing that made alot of sence to me, "I was just going to get it repainted the same color, but i wouldn't feel that i really got anything so i made a drastic change in color and it feels like i got a new car!" Makes sence to me. Just my $0.02

I would keep it the same color to be on the safe side. Usually you get what you pay for when it comes to paint jobs, unless you "know a guy", which you do. 800 is definatly a good deal if he does a good job, a quality paint job can sometimes cost 3 to 4 times that depending on where you get it done. Good Luck

That is a good price. Right now someone is painting mine gunmetal grey for 300. I had to buy the paint though. So far with just one coat and it looks pretty good.
