Outer Door Skin separating...

My '97 passenger door is separating at the rear edge and rattling the glass. The outer door skin is pulling away from the door frame. I attempted to refasten it with some JB Weld but it broke loose! Is there any special adhesive that should be used to join the door skin to the door frame? Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks, John

I was going to suggest JB Weld but you said it didn't work already. Did you prep the surface properly ?

Because I've used that stuff and it holds pretty good. I mean all the factory used was an adhesive and JB Weld is a pretty good one.

I had this problem and used a general epoxy - clamped it gently together to not disturb paint, body, etc. and left it for a day or so.

It held for a couple years, but is now seperating again.

There is a panel bonding adhesive that 3M makes. I was remembering it to be in a silicone form, but I could be remembering wrong.

I removed the old adhesive, squirted in the new stuff and clamped it. It's held for the last 4 years.

Do any of you have a good pic of what this looks like? I'm looking at purchasing an '02 Z28 in California and don't want to waste my time on it if it's going to cost a bunch of money to repair.

Does it happen on the very edge of the door?

Compstall, I don't have a pic but my friend's car is doing this. It's just the very outer edge of the door that separates from the main bulk of the door. The outer portion of the door is just a skin (a layer of composite material) that is bonded to the frame of the door.

So I'm thinking that with the right bonding epoxy or whatever this job will not be all that difficult to complete at home....a little touch up paint afterwards would make it nearly un-noticeable unless it was pointed out.
