Thanks gentlemen.
Everyone who's e-mailed me, I have you on my list and will be getting back with you ASAP. I need to iron out a few issues with advertising/figuring out how I'm going to promote these. Either way, I should have at least one prototype of each finished in a couple weeks.
On top of that, I would really like to get an actual part in someone's hands so they can judge for themselves, spread the word and so on. This is in the works gentlemen and hopefully all of this will gel here quickly. I will keep all of you informed.
edit: if you're remotely interested, please shoot me an e-mail, this gives me a good understanding of the volume I need to produce. Just as easy to make 200 as it is to make 20 but I don't want 180 samples sitting round my office either.
Gooday!
Mike

Mike (Mad),
I will e-mail you and let you know my thoughts so that you can tally up on this stuff...but my question is this.
As far as the side emblems, there should be no problem of fitting to a contour. The billet isn't felxible like the factory plastic emblems, so it just stick strait on.
Now on the back (under the taillight) is a different story. That part of the car is contoured, and the Bowtie and any other emblem (if flat on the backside) would have a hard time mounting all the way across, wouldn't they? You could use a really thick adhesive and get them to stick on the car with no problem, but that might look bad? I was thinking of using them in a couple of other places actually, so that's why I ask.
If this isn't a problem, then great! But it might be something to look out for.

Mindgame,
Customs shouldn't be a problem. Just send me a picture and give me some idea of the scale to work towards. Thanks!
94,
On "how to attach the emblem"... good question. The 3M company makes an acrylic foam tape that is generally used for this very purpose... attaching emblems. I'm going to try this out on my Z28 just to make sure everything works like it's suppose to. Soooo, that means making a few dies to cut the foam and a couple of months of proofing everything out so as to assure that there will be no problems. I have bigger issues than that however.... I am in the process of gaining copywrite permissions from GM. You can only imagine how important this is. I could make the product, sell it and then have to pay all profits, along with court costs, to GM if I don't go through the legal avenues set up in this matter.
I do have a prototype finished and I have quite a few designs on the drawing board. All of this will hopefully gel sometime before the end of this year. The Z06 style Z28 emblems should't pose as a problem because they are not copies of the originals but I have to find out for sure and should know something by the end of this week. I should also have the new "LT1" emblem finished by Wednesday, so be looking for that on my website. Which, by the way, is in my signature... doesn't show as a link though. Anyone know what the problem is there?
In the meantime,

I don't belive he is worried about his "profits", if you read how interested he is in helping us, you would see that it's not the profits he is worried about, it's the legal problems he might face from GM for duplicating a copyrighted item, mass producing it, then going to court, paying back all his "profit", court costs, plus losing a lawsuit, costing him everything. including his livelyhood, so he is simply looking out for himself, which i would also, so you get the permission before you do anything Mac. I wouldn't want something that would cause him to get in trouble, so we will se what GM says. and chances are, that would take awhile, because this will be on the bottom of their priority list.

If there is NO "Z06" anywhere on the freakin emblem, GM has NO CLAIM TO IT WHATSOEVER.
pu12en12g knows his stuff so when he says there is no legal problems, I'd take his advice. And honestly I see is point not only because I want this to happen but since GM didn't come up with the idea first, they have no right to claim it on the backend. And if you feel that GM has the right to sue, then don't buy one or make one.
I hope that was sarcasm. Because if pu12en12g is a copyright expert, he needs to find another occupation. (No flame intended.) Mike the Machinist has every right to be cautious. Regardless of what the emblem says, GM can sue if a replica is sold that closely resembles the original (assuming they decide its worth the time and effort). Its like if you took Coca-Cola's logo, changed the words to KooKoo-Cola but kept the same style of the original logo and used it for your own brand of soda. Of course Coca-Cola could (and would) sue you for a copyright violation.
Its the same situation with the GM Z06 emblems.

•The first example that comes to mind is the Progresso Soup Commercial...the use their "competitors" soup can that has "Condensed" written on it in nice cursive writing with a red and white label...I could be wrong, but it looks just like "Campbell's" label with a different word...
Just wondering, and hoping that all is going well for MadMac...
~~No flame intended!~~ Just thinkin'.
Hey guys,
This is a great discussion, if not a little off-topic. But it brings up a good point. Now, you can do a search on ebay on any given day and find "unlicensed" Z28, Z29R, Z06, and C5 banners, logos, emblems, and decals. Some of these people are, I suppose, RISKING infringement violations.
How many of you have used the Z28 logo on your personal webpage ? Hmmm ? ?
The COCA-COLA scenario is a example of using the likeness of a Trademark and putting it on a competing "PRODUCT". In other words, the hypothetical KOO-KOO COLA would now be competing with Coca-Cola AND using the Likeness of the Trademark Coca-Cola.
The "Z06" in OUR real world scenario is a CAR.
It is also simply a combination of letters and numbers.
It is also a shiny emblem, placed on the car.
Duplicating the exact Z06 emblem and selling it for a profit would be RISKING a violation. Even in THAT extreme case, it is a small risk. GM has better things to do with their lawyers trust me.
HOWEVER, back to reality guys ! ! We are talking about creating a NEW emblem in the LIKENESS of the Z06 emblem with totally different engraving. Also with potentially CUSTOM engraving.
WE are NOT talking about creating a CAR to compete with the "Z06".
There is a fine line here, but it is still important to recognize that there is indeed a line.

Last time I checked, no company had the right to copyright a circle overtop of a square and letters and/or numbers written on them. And let me give you a better example. If coca-cola did find another drink that said kookoo-cola they would not have the right to sue. In that case, how come Coke didn't sue Pepsi for making plastic drink bottles the same size? Why doesn't Pepsi make a 9 ounce or 17 ounce drink and outdue Coke? If I was to take the Coke-cola name and use it in a negative way Coke could sue. If I used the name w/o asking Coke, I could be sued. But just because I use a name "like" Coke-cola and a bottle the exact same, they have no right to sue. So how can you sit here and say GM is going to sue us for using a circle on top of a square that says Z28? They do not have the right since they did NOT come up with the idea.
But from what people think, if you modify anything then you are breaking a copyright law. Let me ask, if I was to change my tail lights that are NOT copyrighted by GM, would they be able to sue? No! BUT if they could, would they waste their time, doubt it. They would have to find every driver in America with an aftermarket part and take them to court (in a way, LOSING customers for petty shet). So are they going to get a lawyer for us making a product they did not think of? They have no legal right to sue someone just because they had the idea before GM could think of it....
ps-I'm done
pss-When is someone going to make this d*mn emblem so I can buy it?
