New Headliner Question
New Headliner Question
After getting my car running again after 3 years, the headliner fabric dropped. No biggie.
I'm NOT putting a OEM style back in. I hate that foam/felt crap. My board isn't sagging at all, so I'm going to reuse it.
I picked up some nice black microsuede today that I plan to do the headliner with. Question I have is do I have to use a foam back on it or can I just put the new fabric straight on the old board (after removing the stock fabric/foam obviously)??

I ordered a headliner from Hawks Third Generation Fbody! It looks pretty good installed.
Now it wont fit like factory you have to do some cutting around the seat belt trim where it comes out of the roof of the car. Also, you will have to cut out where the visors go to get the screws to line up with the headliner so you can put your visors in.
It does look much better than a sagging headliner though! It comes with the foam backing and cloth just like OEM. The back board is ABS plastic not foam! You can request samples to get the color of the headliner you want
If you have never done the headliner before, it will take you about 2 hours probably to do.
You will have to remove 8 screws in the hard top car. I don't know about the T top car because my car is hard top. You need to remove the trim around the seatbelts where they come through the headliner in the car. You will need to take a screw driver and remove the coat hanger. At this point, the sail panels will pull forward. You need to remove pilliar trim on both driver and passenger side. You will need to slide the old headliner through the back hatch. Slide your new one back through the hatch. Line up the seat belt cutouts and the visor cutouts. Put your screws back in and reinstall pilliar trim, put you coat hangers back in, and seat belt trim.
The headliner cost me $230.00 shipped to my door. It takes about three weeks to get it because they make them as you order one.
Hope this helps, Lee!
