Question Need a new door.

I need to get a new door for my car, because one of the previous owners was rammed or something. So, the door is pretty crappy right now, the door skin is loose, the inner skin is loose, and the window is loose. There's also some fiberglass on the door, you can't see it when I'm driving by, but you can when I open the door, and there's some fiberglass inside the door that you can hear when you open or close the door.

So, there's not many salvage yards around here. I looked up some online, and I found one that's about 2 hours away from me, and they have some Camaros, and doors available in both manual (which I have now), and electric. I'm wanting to switch over to electric door and windows, and my lock on the hatch is messed up, so I'm thinking of just buying two new doors instead of just one, and getting the lock from the same car. How much trouble would it be to switch over from manual to electic doors?

Re: Need a new door.

I'm fairly close to you, and I have a few good doors if your local guy falls through.

It's not that much extra trouble if you dont mind buying the relays and running some wires.. The schematics are fairly simple and are in the Hayne's manual.

Re: Need a new door.

That would be really good, I'm supposed to go to the salvage yard next week, if they don't come through, I'll send you a PM. I looked it up, and their doors are 200$ a piece for the electric, compared to 100$ for the manual, so I'm guessing that the doors have all the electrical parts that are inside the doors normally.

Does anyone have a walk-through or something for changing it over, because I'd like to get all the parts and know how to do it before I start. It wouldn't be too good to have the door off, and not have all the parts. The salvage yard I'm looking at has doors the same color as my car, purple pearl metallic, which is pretty rare around here. I've only seen one other Camaro the same color as my car, so if I don't get the doors in the same color as my car, I'll have to get them painted, which will cost more.

Re: Need a new door.

I haven't seen a walkthrough on the net yet. Your best bet if you don't have/find one would be as I said, to get the Haynes manual and look at the general layout. Then find the relay part #'s you need, and a fair amount of quality wire. You might have to get an extra fuseblock from painless wiring or a similar company for the main power though. The window system draws a good amount of juice.

If you wire the main circuit before installing the doors, and use a ghetto set of test wires to test the door circuit, then you wont be stranded when its time to put the power doors on.

Try installuniversity, they might have a how-to or some good info.

Re: Need a new door.

I have a Hayne's Manual, and I was looking at it last night. After looking at it, I've decided to go for a 93-95 door if I can because with those years the door system is seperate from the keyless entry system with the wiring diagrams, which looks a little to complicated for me to try, at least until I get the doors on first.
