Looking to brighten up the engine bay

It's not too bad. A lot of dirt and leaves hidden in the crevices. I was thinking of using Armour all on the hoses and plastic parts.
What can I use an the painted surfaces to brighten it up? Ideas? Thanx

brake cleaner, simple green for painted parts/engine bay. Any rubber/vinyl treatment for the hoses.

degrease and pressure wash the hell out of it.

All parts you can use WD-40. Spray on, leave sit, wipe off.

I use store-brand orange cleaner from the grocery store. It's a really weak multi-purpose cleaner that works great on the paint in the engine bay. I use a toothbrush with it or just paper towels.

For making the plastic and rubber look new, I use STP brand Tire shine spray. I think it might be called "Son of a Gun" tire something or other... comes in a big yellow aerosol can. Spray it on, spread it around with a paper towel and let it sit a few minutes then wipe it off. I like STP because it's really inexpensive and doesn't leave behind a lot of gunk. Meguiars makes a good tire shine, but it has too much scent to it and you'll pass out before you even get one side of the engine bay done.

I just did my engine bay in my GXP with the STP the other day. Didn't bother to use the orange spray.

I'd kinda like to leave water out of the equation with the engine harness hanging around there thanx.

But I'll give Simple Green a shot. Already have a bottle of that lying around.

it is easy enough to wrap the electronics in plastic, you can remove the PCM also.

Here's some shots of the '95 Z28 that I have used the orange spray on. You just spray it like you're cleaning the kitchen counter. I always fill a spray bottle with water and rinse it a little bit. Doesn't seem to bother the paint, but I prefer to rinse it off anyway.

Not perfect, but I don't care for perfect. I just wanted it to look clean.

I really disagree with using Simple Green and other powerful chemicals and power washers on the engine bay. The only way I'd use that is if somebody with AIDS threw up in my engine bay. That's just WAY overkill with too powerful of chemicals and water pressure IMO.

Thanx for the tips. I guess Armour All is old school. Although they do have "orange wipes."

The purpose of the off-brand orange cleaner is just because it's kind of weak and it's really inexpensive. Some of the brand name stuff that is similar to it, like 409, is probably a little more powerful. The orange stuff won't really hurt your hands or anything.

I don't really think it's all that important that there's oranges in it or whatever. That wasn't my purpose for it is all I mean.
