Lexan Window Replacements

Hello. I've recently purchased a 1996 Camaro Z28, and think it is time that I join a message board with knowledgeable people (you guys come highly recommended). I have been creating a list of modifications I intend to do to the car in the future. I'm pretty much new to camaros so if I say anything stupid, please excuse my lack of knowledge. While looking at other peoples vehicles for ideas, I've noticed that some people have installed Lexan replacements for the windows. I know this is done often for track cars, but is it legal for street cars? Also, how much weight would I save if I installed these? Are there any disadvantages to the use of lexan replacements? Is it possible to tint lexan? Thanks in advance.

The glass on cars is actually meant to break in a crash because everything that breaks desipates energy which is why Lexan glass use is not street legal. well thats just one of the reasons lol
