Sadly, if you do anything other than put on an SS hood and rear spoiler along with a set of Torq Thrust IIs, you will get lots of flak. I applaud you for daring to be different!

It's only an SS, you guys are acting like he took apart a Berger or Dick Harrell Camaro or something, you know, cars with really low production numbers. They made thousands of the SS model per year every year of the LS-1. The SS had some suspension and power benefits as well over the Z-28, maybe that was his motivation for getting an SS over the Z. Perhaps he wanted to start off with a little better handling and power since with the added weight of the body kit, larger wheels, and the vertical door hinges, he'll need a little more handling and power to compensate.
There were 34,140 SS Camaros in total from 1998 to 2002 between coupe and 'verts...I know that's not a huge number, but it's pretty significant and I don't think that this guy modifying this one is going to effect the values of the rest of the SS's out there.
At least he isn't slamming it into a wall or a tree like some other dumbasses here do. You don't give those guys near as much crap as you've given this dude. [/rant]

Re: Let the hating begin

^ I'm w/ him... Good point. THere could be far worse things done to a car.. Maybe add a huge fart pipe, sick a roof scoop on it...Give it to a 16 y/o and let him crash it... Etc, etc..

I like it... I'd like to see more pics. It goes back to the old saying... 'to each his own.'... I'm lookin on doing almost the same. I'll be doin the Vizage kit when the $$'s right. Wanted to have it done before the fall car show, but I doubt it.... Some of the aftermarket kits can be lighter than the stockers.. SOME.... ...and I've done enough susp mods that my Z would be in the same class as an SS now... Susp wise...

Like you mentioned, it's just a SS. The benefits you're mentioning are almost nonexistant.

All he's doing is taking a good looking car and making it look like your typical Honda. Very original, yeah.

Re: Let the hating begin

Unfortunately the hating happens on all the sites. Unless you're a conformist and put OEM items on a car, you're a ricer in the eyes of the elitists. It's funny because the ones that speak up and do the hating also haven't put no where near the amount of time, effort, cash, or thought into their own cars, yet they think their opinion is valid.

To the haters: If ya ain't done major **** to your car's appearance, ya should sit down and keep your negative comments to yourself, and when you grow the ***** to make YOUR car YOURS, then we'll all flame you for customizing it. Until then, have fun with your boring car that gets overlooked by the guys that have actually done something major to their own.

Jun10rp, like I've said in the past, you've done a lot of great work to that car! One thing that I'm curious about though... I know with my Camaro, when I wash it the water comes out inbetween the Camaro filler panel and the bumper, you've smoothed it over -- have you thought about negative effects of water building up against the back/inside of the smoothed joint? Would hate to see water get back there and weaken the joint. I know most of the parts that get molded in (bumper to the rear fender, side skirts to the main body, etc) wouldn't have the water build up like where the Camaro taillight/filler panel meets the bumper, so I was just curious. Your body work has come out great, can't even tell where the lines used to be, and that means a quality job!

It looks good so far... but why not use the bumper that came with the kit... it would look good in orange.

Yes, spending money on side skirts makes opinions more valid, and people that spent that money, enlightened.

To the kids: We all realize that The Fast and The Furious was a smash hit. One day though, people will realize that there really is a point when your car can have too many vents, scoops and pieces of aluminum bracing bolted onto it.

If my car isn't going to be MINE until I make it look like it was in a head on collision with a Pep Boys clearance rack, then I guess it never will be "MINE". LMFAO.

So yeah, until that happens, have fun with your exciting Transformer looking rice era inspired car that gets overlooked by the guys that actually have taste.

There's many reasons you never see high end cars plastered with all kinds of extra wings, flame decals, neon gauges, body kits, side skirts and bumpers... But the biggest reason of them all is probably because they aren't owned by kids that have no sense of class or taste.
