This would be great, if it was anything but a fourth gen. Our doors are a composite material, CamaroCasanova can elaborate on what a PITA it is to get the texture right and for it not to crack and all the associated problems with shaved handles.

As far as getting Lambo doors. You are easily looking at an investment in the $10,000 range when all said and done. I have spoken with two different entities about this over the years. Depending if you get a hydraulically opened (or motorized of another sort) you will still be well over $8,000 when complete. If you want something done right, and since this will be a one off project, it is going to cost. Look how simple suicide doors may seem. I think CC said he spent in the $4000 range to have this accomplished. Lambo style doors in contrast to doing suicide are a huge project.

Like the guys who build stroker motors for the first time. They will tell you if you budgeted $7,000 for one, when they finished it was along the lines of double that. I wish you luck. If had the finacial means for such a project, I would have had it done in '95 as soon as I got my car. Just don't try to do it on a budget and have plenty of patience.

i know for a fact it will not cost more then $5,000. that is paying cost, plus an expensive @$$ body man. i think maybe you should break down the figures and all that before you start quoting prices. try going to google.com and looking up these kits plus install, most people pay less then $4,000 for the motorized.

LOL $10,000? NO!!! That was the price when the mod first came out, or to someone who does'nt shop around. I'm getting mine from a different company and it's costing me $1500 installed!!!! The only catch is that I'll be the first camaro they've done, but they've done many, many other cars already Hondas, BMW's etc.. so it's a sponsorship deal. But they still have to make the kit or a camaro first. I'll be getting the call to make my appointment soon. I cant tell you guys where I'm going cause I have to get that deal while it lasts (you understand) but it will be the best mod on my car period!!! But I'm going for NOPI 2003 (Atlanta) so I have to crush the comp some kind of way. With Whistlers help I definitely will be coming home with a phat trophy (vette mod and air dam).

But is this Auto-loc motorized kit for $2000 the full kit (all pieces)? Anywayz the more camaro's with this mod will put the 2003 stangs and imports in their places. Holla

yea the autoloc motorized kit comes with all the pieces...go to THIS PLACE and find the deluxe lambo kit. The suggested retail is 3599, retail is 2499, and I can do it for 2k. Shipping shouldn't be much, just a few brackets and a linear actuator. Its a pretty freaking awesome kit if you ask me. LIFETIME warranty on the motor (20 years from now it goes bad, they replace it for FREE).

But trust me, you won't be the ONLY one at nopi (atlanta) with a camaro and lambo doors

you "might" take home 1st place but won't be with just lambo doors hahaha

but trust me, I will take TONS of pictures of your car if you get that **** done and your there. lets park beside each other....people be like

The prices I got were from people who have actually done this. The company that did the Mustang Cobra I have posted links to in many of these previously related threads, have done Camaro's already. The other being the builder of the El Camaro, who has done numerous vertical swing arm doors in the past on cars like the new VW Bug, etc..

Not to say it can't be done for less, just don't expect it. Good luck.

First, believe it or not just because YOU haven't scene it doesn't mean it hasn't been done. Second, I supported you and only said it probably couldn't be done at that rate out of realistic skeptisim since I have inquired about this also. Not saying it was impossible. Here is a recent e-mail I had with such a company regarding their vertical opening door kits. This is one of many sources I have talked to over the past four years.

Subject: hinges

hello,
I was inquiring information regarding your vertical opening hinge kits. Has your products, either the 1B-4 or 1B-6 hinges been used or capable of being used on a 4th generation F-body ('93-'02). Specifically the Chevy Camaro. If any of your customers have done so, I would appreciate any pictures if you have them. Thanks for your time.

Wraith

Yes that can be done.

The hinges are not made specifically for that application but can be used on any car that you can modify to make them work on. I don’t have any Camero pics but I have had people buy the hinges to use for that.

One of the door hinges is in the first picture on the web page Style #2 is also a door hinge. The other hinges are for hoods and deck lids. These hinges where designed for the Lambo kit car in the second picture

We have three different methods of hinging on regular cars.

The use of special hinges requiring body modifications is how the systems work.

Yes you can buy just the hinges from us. $415.00 pr. For Type 1A. $425.00 pr. For Type 1B. $375.00 pr. For Type 2A.

I would recommend the Type 1B4 hinge for your car. It offers the most "outward motion" at the hinge point as it rotates.

We are offering the Type 1B4 and the 1B6 hinges in a kit that includes Hinges, Gas Springs, Steel plates with movable mounting studs for adjusting the fit, that you can cut to fit for mounting the hinges to the Door and the Jamb, some Brackets, Ball Studs, Rod ends and some Hardware with Installation Instructions for $650.00

Cost for the whole job?

Do you want us to do some or all of the work, or do you want to just purchase the parts? It is not possible to give you a price up front because of the custom nature of each project. IE. Do you want the door handles shaved, what about the paint work? Does it lift under power or manually? Does it have power locks, power windows, keyless entry? Is it a Sedan or Hard Top? and so on. Plan on spending 5 to 15 thousand.

We are in Middleville Michigan. Just south of Grand Rapids and about 45 min west of Lansing.

Thank you

Ross

trust me, bring it to Roanoke Virginia. I have already had 3 shops quote me under $1k for labor. And I have power windows, power locks, power mirrors, and t tops. I'd really like to see the detailed write up of that guy saying 15 grand, its like a 12k or 13k profit IMO.

And having a quote for 2500 installed with a motorized kit is so far, a normal price.

Not being a jerk, but UNTIL I see pictures of a camaro with motorized lambo doors, I will call anyones bluff on "i saw it done already". I seriously think I will be the first. Anyway, its just great to say "I was the first ever to do this to my car".....have a good weekend fellas

I did some searching on this mod for my 86 Z-28 about a year ago and came up with a site that sold the exact same hinges wraith was talking about. I got a quote of $600 for those model hinges, but they did'nt install em. But the company I'm dealing with now has been around for a long time, and done over 30 cars since last year. My price of $1500 (installed) is for "me", for anybody else who comes in with any model car it's $1900 for the hinges and $1000 installation. So I'm saving $1500 because I did some talking. But if can find that site with the $600 hinges (1B- or whatever they are) I'll post up the link.

Aside from that, I see I have some real comp on this mod (not just talkers!!) So "white Z 4 show" we're kinda racing on the 1/4 mile for this one lol!!! I just bought my 20's (yea 20'z) for the 2000 and ordering my CF kit (in white!!) to go with my 20 yards of "off white naugahyde". And then taking that lil trip to Florida to get my doors done. The Z is done except for some nice 18's and paint (oh and my custom all clear tailights, I'll be the 1st on cardomain and Atlanta). We got 2 months and it's getting down to the wire, but I have to have these doors!!!

Yea, we should park next to each other cause the stangs were cliqued up last year and only a few 4th Gen camaros. I'm designing how I want my display now (I'm really going all out this year). But I welcome the competition, it makes better cars and even better shows. If ya have'nt seen my new interior work, go to the 86 page and check out page 3.

hell yeah i will park next to ya...that would be great if we both role up and people are like "f'king camaro's" and then both of us bust out the lambo doors. hahaha

but the trick is, your talking about hinges, and i'm going for motorized. so lets walk 10 feet away from our car and see who can open and close the doors

LOL!!! My budget is calling for manual, but..... if I come up with the extra G or so, I might be poppin with a remote too. Your really gonna like the dubz I bought. BTW, updates this week:

1) xenon Kryton blue headlight bulbs
2) diamond clear corners
3) laid the naugahude in the rear hatch and on the trunk cover
4) R-1 (yea the import ones) chrome racing pedals
5) 20% black tint (all the way around)
6) setting up the appointment to get my front GFX molded by "whistler"
7) chrome rear "camaro" inserts
* all pics will be up on the next update

I'm going through the small stuff now so I dont overlook it later. The main show getters are going to be the 20'z, all white interior with 12 pc. white carbon fiber kit, and (x ya fingers) my Lambo doors. I dont know when my door kit will be ready but I figured, why wait on getting the rims outta the way? The doors are the next big step and everything else will fall in place. HIN (hot import nights) is coming up on the 16th, so I'm going to get some ideas that I have'nt thought of. If ya have'nt figured it out yet, I try to be different from the crowd but get respect from domestics/imports at the same time. One last thing, reversed hood?

I was just thinking....couldn't you make your own lambo doors pretty cheap? Probably need a custom hing still, but: Have a hing that opens like a normal door, but only about 6 inches, then it hit a stop that is near the hing. Then with something that rotates built into the hing, you could just push it open with the help of something like the arms that hold the hood and hatch up. I guess the easiest way would would be to have the whole door hing sitting on some kind of bearing, with a stop built in for when the door is open, and one for closing it. I work at a machine shop, so I would have access to everything. I think it might be doable. What do you guys think?

go to Autoloc and look up the lambo doors. they have a CAD design that might give you the information you need. I personally think the non-motorized kits are easy to make. That is why I'm going motorized, because I don't think anyone would do it. Plus I don't want to open my door anymore
