In another post the other day some people were asking about some custom gauges, from Speedhut.com

This is the exact e-mail they sent me, so here it is for all to see. I'm just not interested enough to be the group leader, but maybe someone is...this is long, but here it is.

"We don't currently offer Indiglo's or Overlays for your car. However, some
cars have identical dash clusters. Please check out our site at
www.SPEEDHUT.com to see if parts for your dash are available. If you are
interested in becoming a Group Leader for your car, please read the info
below:

***The Group Leader is the one who sends in the cluster for his car. Please
don't use your own car's cluster, we don't send it back. The best thing is
to get a cluster from a junkyard (it does NOT have to be in working
condition HOWEVER it DOES need to have everything intact - ie needles, etc).
Please do not spend a lot of money on Postage sending your cluster to us.
Send it Ground Mail or whatever is cheapest. Make sure it is INSURED
however! And remember to add your contact information in the package.
Once you send it to us we will consider you the Group Leader for your car.
We will then be able to add your cluster to our Group Buy Program. Then it
will be up to you, as the Group Leader, to answer emails pertaining to your
cluster about the Group Buy. We will be in contact with you through out the
process.
Once we receive 20 Pre Orders we will begin tooling for your car. You as the
Group leader will get your Indiglo Dials for FREE. We also offer additional
discounts to you and your Group. *Free Text, Free Graphics (ie Flames, Race
Stripes, etc), Free Logo's off of our Standard Logo page. In addition, we
have your Group (through you) pick one additional logo to add to your list
of options. Usually this is your Cars Make or Group Logo.
We also can add the Km/h version to the Pre Orders for FREE as long as we
have at least 5 Km/h Pre Orders. If there are less than 5 people wanting
Km/h then those that want Km/h will split $99.00 between themselves to have
Km/h put on the gauges instead of MPH (i.e. For 4 people $25.00 will be
added to each of their orders).
The price for our Pre Order Program Indiglos will be $119.95 plus $8.00 S&H
per Pre Order.

I know there's a 94-96 camaro at a junk yard about 35 min. from where I live with a 115mph speedo. Any idea how much they would charge for it?

 

WOW that sounds great..im interested...gonna get to a junkyard if not this weekend next...looking for a '99 camaro or tans am..

 

NiNeT9SS, they already have a gauge for the 98+ Cars, so you might wanna go check out their website, they are doing a group order for it I think, check that other post I mentioned in the opening post of this thread.

SplitFire, that'd be great! Although that's only for the V6's that would give them their basic design, then they could very easily make one for a 150mph Speedo I bet. I wouldn't think it would cost you a whole lot, just explain to the junkyard dude why you need it and he may give you a break, there are SOME nice people out there.

 

Clairification, the 115 speedo is NOT just on the V6... its on some earlier Z28s, that did not opt for Z-Rated tires. I ought to know, my Z has a 115. Sorry just hated to think I was a V6.

 

Do you guys think that there will be enough interest in the 115mph speedo's to make it worth the time? I have a spare gauge cluster out of a '95 3.4 Camaro sitting in my garage.

Over 100 bucks sounds kinda steep for a good bit of the guys on the boards here so it'd probably take forever to get 20 orders together. BUT if I can get a few people to get in touch with me to show that they would consider buying the item then I'll mail them mine.

 

I think if the guys at Speedhut.com got their tooling set up to make either the 115 or 150 cluster they could easily do the other, and might work with us some on it...I don't know this for sure, but maybe. We can always generate more interest by making this known on the other F-Body forums, and it sounds like there are a few here that are interested. That first post in this thread is the only contact I have had with these people, so maybe you can contact them with more info than what I gave them and they can tell you a little more. I think that it's not a bad price for them.
Anyone else interested or have anything to add...so far it sounds like Mystic Teal has the best shot at sending them a cluster.

 

BlackBowtie touched on it in his first post but thought I'd show some of you other guys something I found on their site in reference to these gauges from SpeedHut

I think that there would make the 120$ price tag much worth it. How many other places do you see allowing you to do this? If BlackBowtie doesn't follow up with an e-mail I'll be more than happy to get in touch with them to see if it would be possible to take my template of a 115mph cluster and fabricate one for the 150mph guys.

With you being able to choose your own colors and fonts the possiblities are endless. No longer have to worry about changing out all of the bulbs to make the background a certain color etc etc. We can submit certain graphics that can be used by everyone in our group such as a Firebird or Camaro logo. Do you like the checkered flag background on the Z06 gauges? I'm sure they could set you up with that no problem all for that base price. Have a logo for your local F-body car club? Submit the logo to be added to our options of images to be used on the gauges and have another personalized touch.

After reading up on their website some more I'm really interested in getting this together. We just need to get 19 other guys together that'll say they want them also. Says that once they tool everything to make them it'll take 8 or more weeks til shipping time. Until then your CC won't be charged and even then they will get in touch with you via e-mail to confirm that they are ready to be shipped and make sure your custom overlay is to your liking.

BTW- I see that they already have a pre-order link on their site for the '97+ gauge clusters so if you're in that group you should head on over and make an order.

Since this is two years old now...just gonna let anyone who might be interested know that I have been seeing V6 clusters on eBay for $10 or so...

So if anyone is still looking - this may be your chance.
