How well does painting leather work?

I'm working on brightening up my interior with a red on black theme. And I remember looking through a mag and seeing a Camaro similar to mine, but the "middle section" of the seats were red.

I don't know if they were painted or reupholstered, but I've alwas wanted to have that.

I was just wondering.. how well does the special leather paint you can buy work? What is involved in it? (any primers, clear coats, that sort of thing) How does it turn out?

If it is the cheap way of doing it.. then I'm not going to bother. If the paint is going to flake and look tacky, then I will just get it done with real red vynal.

Thanks!

On high traffic areas like seats and arm rests I wouldn't use dye.

It will last longer and look better reupholstered
