How to paint interior Pannels, correctly???
I have a grafite color interior and want most of the car to be black inside. I don't want it looking like crap, and it needs to be pritty durable. I dont' want it flaking of everytime I rub against it.
Is this possible?
How do I do this?
Does anyone have any pictures or expierences?
thanks

I painted my speaker covers and here's what I use :
400 sandpaper
Duplicolor primer, paint and clear coat
Wet sand the panels
do about one to two coats of primer
put a few layers of paint. Be sure to give time in betweeen for the paint to dry.
Then do about two coats of clear coats.
That's how I did mine and you can check my sig for pics of it.

Check my sig. I did it in blue. The pictures make the color look like *** but it is an exact match to my exterior paint.
First, you have to have two grits of sandpaper. One course and the other fine. Go over the plastic with the course and then with fine until it is smooth with no more factory texture. Then, wash the plastic with Dawn soap and an SOS pad. Then put on a couple of coats of gray primer. Let this dry about ten minutes then start your paint coats. You willl need about ten to fifteen minutes between coats and alot of coats. Try to keep them even. You will then use ALOT of clear coat. Let this dry similar to the paint. Voila. Beutiful interior.

Alright I did it a bit different and mine came out awesome. I didnt sand, prime or wash. I did wipe them off with a damp rag but nothing big like using an sos pad and dawn. After I cleaned them with the rag I sprayed them about 10 or 12 times leaving about 10 minutes in between each coat. I did VERY light coats. After I all the color was on I did about 5 clear coats. Havents had any chipping peeling or anything. Looks like its still new and I did it about 5 months ago. You can check the sig. 2nd Page.
If you use a lot of armoral or any other cleaner and the pieces are greasy you might want to do the Sanding, priming and that stuff. But I dont do that to often and they werent greasy so I just went at it.

Here is what I did and it turned out awesome. Looks factory cause the wrinkles are visible.
wash with soap and water
let dry
apply 3M grease and wax remover
applied several coats of VHT plastic, vinyl, and leather dye
It actually dyes the plastic to the color you choose .Much better than painting
I have also used Plasticot vinyl paint and it turned out really well
wash with soap and water
let dry
apply 3M grease and wax remover
apply a good coat of plastic bonding agent aka Bond Aid
apply 2 good coats of primer
apply several light coats of vinly paint
apply clear (optional)
I did not use clear becuase I didnt want it shinny and have had no problems The wrinkles still show through and looks factory as well

TheV6Bird's Guide to Interior Painting
This question is asked often, so I decided to make an instructions sheet using MS Word. I saved it, so now I just copy & paste. Here you go:
HOW TO PAINT YOUR INTERIOR
Supplies: Light-grit sandpaper (I used 800-1000 grit), Plastikote Flexible Bumper & Trim Primer (Sandable), Plastikote Bumper & Trim Color (mine was Silver Metallic, FYI), Plastikote Ultimate Enamel, rubbing alcohol, paper towels.
Make sure you do this inside. If you paint outside, you risk bugs and crap getting stuck to the paint, which means you’d have to sand the paint off, and repaint.

Take all of the pieces you wish to paint out of the car. Disconnect any switches on those pieces, such as power window/lock switches. You don’t want to paint those.
Clean all parts with rubbing alcohol to get all of the crap and Armor-All off of it.
Sand the parts down so the surface is rough. It doesn’t have to be really rough, but rough enough so the paint adheres.
Wash off sanding dust from parts, dry them, and use alcohol again. You can never get these parts TOO clean.
Finally, the spraying begins: When the parts are dry, spray an even coat of primer on all of the parts. Wait 30 minutes to dry. Reapply another coat and wait 30 min for that to dry. I used 3 coats of primer on all of my parts, so I recommend multiple coats to cover all the little nooks and crannies. Wait for 1 hour after final primer coat before going on to step 6.
After you’ve waited 1 hour (or longer) for primer to dry, spray on the color layer. I sprayed on 1 coat, waited 30 minutes, and repeated 3 or 4 more times. I used 5 coats of color. Wait 1 hour before going to step 7.
After you’ve waited 1 hour (or longer), it’s time for the enamel to protect. Spray on coat, wait 30 minutes, repeat. I used 4 coats of enamel.
Now that you are all done painting, just wait overnight (24 hours is recommend, but I was impatient
) for your parts to dry off.
Once you’re sure all parts are dry, reinstall them.
Drive around with tops down so everyone will notice your fly paint job.
If ladies ask how you painted it, give props to the author of these instructions, TheV6Bird. This is highly recommended
NOTE: Some people use enamel, some use clear coat. I used enamel because the guy at Pep-Boys said so, but I forget his reasons. I have no regrets with the enamel, and it hasn’t flaked off in the 1 year that I have had it.
