How to Dye Door Panel fabric?

My camaro has the ugly "rainbow" grey cloth interior. I have made a rear seat delete and will be replacing the front seats, but I need to do something about the door panels. At this point I want to try to dye them before recovering or replacing them with leather.

I have never been pleased with aerosol dye's because they usually leave the fabric hard and "crunchy" feeling.

Can you guys point me to a good dye that will still feel normal. I want to dye the panels black by the way as I am going with black seats.

lol how about liquid fabric dye. I guess you'd have to remove the panels and sponge the dye on then rinse if off till the water runs clear.

I was under the impression the fabric part of the door panel was not really removable?

I don't think you'll ever be happy with a dye job on any of the material that was offered in the F-bodies. It'd probably actually be more work to try to dye it than it would be to just reupholster it in the material of your desire.
