How do I remove clear coat from a rim??

I just bought a 71 Fomula 'bird with some american racing rims on it...the clear coat is peeling and look pretty lame.
What is the best way to remove the remaining clear coat??

Get some sandpaper. That's your best bet. I'd start off with a 500-250 grit. And go from there.

They are chrome and in great shape, except for the clear coat peeling. Most places its allmost all the way off, I tried getting it off with a razor blade and it worked ok....time consuming but ok.

I just stripped the clearcoat off of my polished aluminum wheels over the winter. I used Aircraft Paint Stripper. You can get it at about any hardware store and some auto places like Autozone. It works great!

That's what you need.
Sandpaper will scratch the surface below the clear coat...wouldn't risk that.

Just pick up a can or two of this stuff from Wal-Mart, in the automotive section. It is in a blue and white can and its called "Aircraft Remover" made by Kleen-Strip I believe. I have used it several times - works great. Just spray it on - the about 15 minutes later - wipe it off or scrape it off with a plastic scraper. Shouldn't hurt the finish underneath - as long as it isn't painted.
