HELP! Conv. owners in here please!
So during another wonderful nebraska storm I get into my car and happen to look into the rearview mirror, I saw water drip from the inside of my car on the top of the window! so I get into the back seat to find that the whole top part of the window had seperated from the cloth and the back of my car was drenched! I went to an auto shop and a body shop and nobody seems to be able to do anything for me so right now its just taped up
for a temp job untill I can find something out. Does anybody know how to fix this or where I might be able to take it to be fixed? I figured there would be some kind of glue or sealent I could buy but I have no Idea where I could find some if there is such a thing.

I feel for you man. The bottom of my window came loose from the cloth a while ago. I just superglued it back and it hasnt given me to many problems. The only thing is the cloth wont stretch back to where it was so the window is not attached to the cloth where it used to be.
My 97 did that. I superglued it back together and that lasted for about a month. I just went and put a new top on though. It needed one anyways, so I just said screw it and bit the bullet and got a new one. If your roof isn't in the best condition I'd just save up and have it replaced. Saves a lot of headaches.
This is a fairly common problem. Go to a good upholstery shop. They can replace just the cloth part(and window) that has the window in it. I Just had this done last summer, total was $419.30.

I noticed mine all at once, so I dont know if it slowly happened or was just weak and one of the many storms this week did it in, BTW I talked to one of my dads friends who used to own a body shop and he said that there is a specially made sealant that you can buy, he is looking into it for me so I'll post the name of it when he gets back to me for anyone that is interested.

Ouch, how much did that cost to get the whole top replaced?

I found a good fix for this. I was looking at mine today and was going to try cleaning out some dirt that managed to make its way between the window and the cloth where the seal was starting to come apart--well I guess I pressed in a tad bit too hard because it just pulled away completely from the window. (Oops
)
Anyway, with my top down slightly (to ease some of the tension on the material) I cleaned the surfaces off with rubbing alcohol, then I ran 2 small beads (about 1/16") across the top of the window. Then I slowly worked my way across (the top side is the only side where the seal had gone bad on mine) pressing the material (from the inside of the vehicle) to the glass making sure that I worked out any bubbles or areas that did not make a good seal.
Now I'm just waiting and I'll trim the excess silicone away after it dries. I'm going to let it sit a full 24 hours before I secure the top back down to make sure the glue dries properly. As far as looks go, I did a good job in making sure it sealed properly and you can't tell that it's anything different than what came from the factory. We'll see how it holds up long term--I don't anticipate any problems though judging by how easy the material pulled away from the glass.
Hope this helps some of you out!
