Is it hard to tint windows???
Is it hard to tint windows???
I have got 3 tint tickets and I can't pay for this third one. Is tinting windows something you need special tools to do? Other than the glue and the heat gun etc... Because if it can be done I will just take my tints off, pay the fine, and put em back on even darker =) SCREW COPS THAT GIVE TINT TICKETS!!!
LOL so true zack... don't trip, even the thought of making a window cutoff switch has crossed my mind. CA cops are BASTARDS especially in my town. They have made it such a bitch to drive my car I don't even drive around town, straight to the highway.

Honestly, I would do that... but the whole idea behind me tinting my own windows is to be able to do it for such a small amount of money that I can take em off and put them back on whenever I want.
Well, the sides aren't bad at all on F bodies. Here is a little step by step and the toold you need:
Tools.
spray bottle
Baby shampoo
squeegee or hard card (Bondo spreader can work if that's all you can find)
razor knife
tape
heat gun
Application.
1. clean outside of window.
2. wet window and place film on outside of window. Spray water on the film and squeegee the water out and be sure to line up the bottom. Make sure you see no "fingers" on the front or back edge of the glass; if you do, squeegee them down so they are at the top or bottom of the window.
3. Now, use the razor knife to cut the tint to size. Use the edge of the glass as a guide for the top and back and use the hard card as a guide for the front by the mirror and the bottom. Now, use the heat gun to heat up the fingers. When they start to move or change shape, use the card to push them out. Continue doing this until the finger stays gone. Do this until you see no more fingers on the top or bottom. DO NOT try to shrink the back or front as this is against the grain and the tint can not be shrunk in that direction.
4. Pull tint off of glass and place it on your back window; be sure to spray the window first so the tint doesn't move.
5. Use a razor blade to clean the inside of the window. Wet the window, razor it, wet it again, use scotch brite if you have it, then squeegee the window twice.
6. Spray the heck out of the inside of the window.
7. Use some tape (a piece on each side of the film; front and back, at the corner) and separate the clear protective backing from the tint. Spray the heck out of the tint; there is no such thing as too much water. Re wet the inside of the window.
8. Carefully line the window tint up on the glass. You may have to use the hard car to get the tint under the window sash and the mirror gasket.
9. ONce it is lined up, spray the tint and begin to squeegee from the center out. Be sure to watch the tint as it can slide. IF it does, just slide it back into place and continue squeegeeing.
That's about it. A little practice and you'll be a pro.
