I can troubleshoot and basically trace stuff, but when it comes to designing circuits, I am not great. Especially since we are going to need to make it small enough to fit in the back of the cluster.
If the Ganatelli add-on is anything to go by, I don't think there is much problem with us overriding the signal coming from the cluster, since they haven't isolated it. It is just soldered to the pin connector on the board.
I have 2 pics I took. One from each side ont he main cluster. I will see about marking a couple items on it and try and post them. I had to put the car back together for tonight so I can goto work in the morning. Maybe I can look for some timing circuits that may work.

Nice nice..

I'll keep looking into the replacment chip idea I have.. saves having to cut too much up..

I know I'm not helping at all when I say this, but my 99 TA does this from the factory

Hehe, sorry. But yeah, hope you guys figure something out and do it, definately sounds like you all want it. I guess it's just something I've taken for granted, haha. Too bad my car isn't with me at the moment or else I could get a short video of it for ya (even though I already have a VHS of it)

Later guys...

wow your lucky and unique as well. I have been in all kinds of newer WS6's including my friends 02 Collector Edition, friends 02 SS, a 00 WS6 and none of them do it. I think you need to make a video of it and send it to us:-)

I thought of another possible problem with this. I just remembered that my fuel gauge actually stays up when the car is off! and same with the temp gauge. What makes them stay in there proper position when the car is off? Is this a problem with what we are trying to do since really both of those gauges never go to there lowest position.

Yeah..
I thought about that as well..
It might be possible to manipulate the smaller gauges, but some (mainly the fuel gauge) might react slow(not do the full sweep)..

Oil pressure, battery and tempature all react failry fast.. Only the battery gauge is spring loaded to home.. The rest are electro magneticly and driven, and would only return with gravity when unpowered..

That's ok.. That retarded gauge can be left out if it doesnt want to play..

Alright, I just checked my VHS video and here's what happened.

I turned the key to the position for a bried moment, the started the car. All the small guages came to life right away, but the Speedo AND the Tach jumped up, but to about the 2 o'clock position (pegged the Tach, and the equivilent position on the Speedo)

Like I said before, the car's stock, so I don't know why mine would do it when other's don't?

Also, I can't recall if it does it everytime or not. Like I said, it's something I've taken for granted

So I hadn't seriously considered isolating the voltage sweep but after thinking about it, this could be a problem if we want to apply voltage directly to the gauge. So I think we need to mimic the signal coming into the cluster from the wiring harness. This would be more plug n play and be easier to isolate.

Also I am thinking we will need to have a circuit that will ramp the voltage (or siganl) up and back down to get a good looking sweep of the gauges.

I'm waiting on some outside resources.. (granatelli, other people)

I'm hoping that it's as easy as adding some simple commands to an EEPROM that's controlling the gauges.. That would mean a simple chip swap..

But please do keep up the outer voltage / signal approach.. Not many people want to give up theyre secrets for me.. (I might be going in circles.. )

I also want to thank everyone that's helping out with this project/idea..

The Grantelli board from what I can tell has a few IC's and 7 wires tapped straight to the cluster. I looks like it just pegs 9V with the speedo. I don't know if taping into the bus going into the cluster is going to work, since it's a bunch of data words that the cluster processes and then signals the gauges. I am going to try and hook my shift light to the gauges. It comes on for about 2 seconds on startup. I thought I could use that as the timer and then relay and diode 6 outputs to the gauges. It's worth a try. I

hey i'm a newbie to camaro's and this board in general, but my gauges do this. Every single time i start the car. It's different, and i've never seen it in any car but mine. its a 99 SS, if you want to know anything else about it, just let me know. i can take a video of it too if anyone wants it.

VIDEO PLEASE!!!!

I'll host the file for others to download.. Just either email me the file, or use aim, icq, msn or something to cnotact me, and transfer the file over that..

If you need any more info, email me.

You can send it to:

givemeyourporn@technologyorgasm.com

no joke.. My email server has no file size restrictions. (gigs if needed :/) Only as long as your service sends properly..

Thanks a bunch!
