I figured that might be the case. The lights in the door were out too and laying under the switches like they would do some good there. I'll have to find the light over spring break and fix it. Thanks for the reply.

Did you just use 1 LED to light up the shifter plate? did you modify the housing or led at all?
I want to do this but dont see how 1 LED with a small viewing angle can light all letters....

 

How does 1 tiny light bulb light it up evenly.....

You shine light into 1 end, and make it come out of some other location... that's how it's done
