Fun with LEDs
What size are the LED bulbs you used to light up your door lock panel? My 98 has some of those and I want to change the color. That amber yellos is just not cutting it. Did it require any modifications?
Those were 5mm LED he used.. and yes, it requires drilling out the hole in the panel and gluing in the LED. Don't forget the resistor inline with the LED or you will blow it up.. literially...
For most of you I'd just look on ebay for the LEDs you need, the resistors you can get at any local radioshack.
I work with LED's all day here at work...
Infact I'm working on my 2nd Gen LED tails right now, I've got basic proof-of-concept prototypes done, I'm just waiting for time in the machine shop so I can go in there and make the prototype units.
They're are going to be very cool... and pricing is NOT going to be cheap, but I may.... make a very few sets to sell...

Actually, I didn't have to drill at all. All that I did was yank the bulb housing out, there's a small square hole that's exposed where the clear plastic piece fit to reflect the light from the bulb, and I simply krazy glued the LED over the hole with the wires stuck through it. Like 97FormulaWS-6 said, you'll need resistors inline with the LED on the positive side, but I wouldn't recommend going to radio shack because they'll rip you off. I got my LEDs from Oznium.com, and they send the resistor with it for free. My red LEDs were rated at 8000 mcd brightness, and were only $0.34, whereas Radio Shack's 50mcd brightness LEDs were a couple of bucks. YEA RIGHT! Also, Oznium sends you the resistors necessary to hook it up to a 12v supply. Shipping will set you back a couple of dollars, but I think it's worth it. It's an easy mod to do, and three of these LEDs are the equivalent of a 15" accent neon strobe, seems worth the money to me.
Oh, and to access more pics of my car, check out my cardomain site, http://www.cardomain.com/id/meissenation

funny, but not very conducive to me seeing some pics
any chance you can fix it, I'm intersted in seeing them

All three should work now! Sorry, I forgot I moved all my pics to a seperate folder. I liked the results of my 9 LEDs so much that I ordered 20 more! As I was washing my car today, I decided to take the sealed beam housing for the headlights out, drilled two holes in each headlight, krazy glued a LED into each hole, and wired it all ready to be spliced into a source (didn't have time to do the whole install). I figure I'll splice it in to go on with the alarm's courtesy lights, as well as go on when the interior lights are on. I'll have pics soon, it looks really good to have a red glow from the headlights -- all for less than three bucks! Also plan to take 10 LEDs and mount 5 each on either side of the headliner so when you open the door you'll have an actual light instead of the dim mirror and dome lights. We'll see how that goes, I should get pictures soon! Just gotta prepare my car for a show.
I think the leds look awesome, I have a silver car and black interior with all blue lights, I'm going to get some blue led's and maybe some white ones and do the interior of mine. I'll probably go to the oznium place.
What I want to know is...
HOW DO YOU PAINT THE DOOR PANELS BLACK LIKE YOU DID... WITHOUT IT CHIPPING!!!
I figured I would ask now rather then make a whole seperate thread. Can you email me and let me know

I want to paint all the grey that is supposed to be black in our cars and make it black instead. I want my car to be strictly silver and black none of this grey mumbo jumbo in between color.

djk19: Vinyl dye is your friend for that sort of stuff. You can buy it at most auto stores like Auzone, Kragen or checker. Just make sure you are buying real vinyl dye and not something like Krylon Fusion.
Vinyl dye actually dyes the plastic rather than just painting it. It won't be terribly glossy in most cases though so test it out on somethingof the same material. Otherwise you would end up re-painting all of your interior so it matches.

that decides it then, I am going to work on my interior and customizing everything black along with my t-56 swap.
btw if anyone is looking for a good deal on a mac torque arm I am selling mine
But my car was vandalized and now I have to use the insurance money to buy new things and hook my car up.
When I see a contrast of true black vs. the grey dash I can see how dramatically grey the interior is although its almost disguised as black or dark charcoal!
I am going to post about my seats...
