FF75 Install ??

(1)Anyone have a diagram(s) of any kind of bracket they made to get the lights mounted in place of the fog lights? (2)I'm going to go ahead and wire the harness that came with the kit,how do i go about connecting the wires to the relay, etc? Thanks

Re: FF75 Install ??

If you use the wires that came with the kit you are in good shape as far as using the relay - pretty easy. The FF75 instruction sheet should tell you how to wire it using the switch they supplies with the kit. All you have to do is substitute their switch with your switch and you are set.

You should end up splicing the input signal wire from the Hella wiring kit (should be on the #85 terminal on the relay - not sure which color that is) into the output wire from the original switch. You could even splice it into the purple wire down where the foglights hook up (the purple wire on the factory setup is the fog light "hot wire"). All you have to do though is feed that relay with a constant, a ground, and your switch, and then it just plugs into the FF75's and you are set.

As far as bracket to mount it in place of the fog lights - I am not sure. I have yet to try this with mine - but since the release of a new FF75, I may be doing it soon.

Re: FF75 Install ??

I installed FF50's and used the factory wiring. The Hella h-7 is only 65w so unless you're going with high wattage bulbs, use a weatherpack connector to the stock wires. Also did fogs+highbeam wiring mod on relaybox so they don't shut off when I hit the brights. Using stock switch so unless you don't have the factory fogs and switch, you don't need to use the Hella switch and relay.

I removed the factory fog light brackets and just cut some flat stock and drilled to match the factory holes in the bottom of the rad mount and drilled the hole for the Hella bracket where I needed it. Sorry I can't remember the exact measurements but the car it in storage Michigan sucks . . . Offhand I'd say about 4"x6" and use pretty sturdy stock. I used 3/16 stock and they haven't budged since spring 2003. Overkill but it's what I had handy

Luks 100w H7.

Best price - and good place to buy from.
Just be sure and select the 100w and you want 2, they are sold individually. I suggest you go ahead and pick up 4 at a time - that way you have two backups in case of a burn out. You can afford to at that price. If you use the Hella wiring though, and you have good connections, etc., you shouldn't have a burn out for a long, long time. I ran those exact bulbs for headlights for a long while. I need to pick up some more, just haven't.

OK. Let me try to understand exactly what is going on. Remove the stock fog light assembly brackets. Then take some stock and drill holes to match the holes that mounted the factory fog light brackets, then take the bracket and drill a hole for the hella bracket>>>do you mean the big bolt with the bolt on it? If so,it looks like the light would be bouncing up and down while driving??

Re: FF75 Install ??

Red97LT1 -- If you use heavy enough stock, they won't move. 16ga ain't gonna cut it but the 3/16 thick stuff I used is a little overkill. But its what I had and works great with no vibration. I just measured them and they're 3" wide x 5 1/2" long. I had 3" wide flat stock and it was the perfect width.

The bracket for the Hella light is mounted so it is just behind the lip of the fog lamp opening in the nose. I did have to pull off the panels on the underside of the nose to get to it better. It bolts to the sides of the light then has one bolt through the bottom of the bracket and this is where it mounts to the flat stock. Make sure you have the lenses mounted right for this bracket position. They have the top marked on the lense. You want that right or your beam parttern will be no good.

Have fun!

Re: FF75 Install ??

Is the bracket on top or below the light. Do i need to move the bracket to the top of the light?

Re: FF75 Install ??

No, the new fog light bracket will be under the light so you want to set the light up so its bracket is under the light. Set the light up like you were mounting it to the top of a steel bumper. Then bolt the light bracket to the flat stock bracket. The front of the flat stock bracket will actually be under the bottom lip of the fog light opening in the nose. Aw, heck, I'm confusing myself now

First get some 3" wide 1/8 or 3/16 thick flat steel at least 12" in length. Cut two 5 1/2" to 6" pieces. Use the original brackets to mark the holes for the rad support and drill them out. The brackets should now bolt up under the car so do that. Now pull the Hella brackets off the light housings and put them in the opening from the front of the car so they are siting on the new flat stock brackets just behind the lip of the opening. Center them in the opening and mark the hole in the Hella bracket on your new bracket. Make sure the light housing won't hit the lip around the opening ( test fit ). Do this for each side then remove the flat stock brackets and drill the holes.

Now bolt up the flat stock brackets again tight. Bolt the Hella bracket to the flat stock bracket and snug up -- but not tight. Now bolt the light housings to the Hella bracket, snugging up again. This is where you make sure the housings have the lenses the right way up. Hook up the wires and make sure they work I used solderless crimp connectors and heat shrink tube to weatherproof them.

Now you can aim the lights and tighten everything up. Hopefully that's a little more clear.

Re: FF75 Install ??

I think that i am getting it now. The brackets will actually be underneath the lights and the bolt from the light will connect them to the bracket? So they don't connect to anything at the top of the light??

Re: FF75 Install ??

Yep. I think the Hella fogs come with the bracket set up above the light because the are usually mounted under a bumper. Just pull the bracket off and flip it around so the mounting hole is under the light. The lense itself is marked as to the top and you want this the right way up so the beam pattern is right. The light needs to be mounted the right way up but the bracket can be switched above ( mounting from the top ) or below ( the way you need to use ). It might be a little clearer than I'm making it in their instructions

The new brackets are the easy part. The hard part is marking and drilling the holes so the lights are centered in the openings and look good. You know, maybe this spring I'll pull the lights off and make a pattern of the bracket. It would work with any aftermarket light that'll fit in the opening.
