I've never had the plastic piece in my car ever and never ran over 175 tops w/ a 160 stat in it. I've had my car 10 yrs. I changed because I wanted a bigger radiator running the Procharger. I'll probably swap to a Griffin later down the road if the fluidyne doesn't cut it.

I've seen littler or no optioned Z's have no cowling. I think if you have AC you need the baffling because of the condenser being there as well. My car immediatly overheated when one of the pins holding the cover up came out. It flapped down over the AC condenser at hwy speeds and immediatly caused the engine to overheat.
