Dash cracked

Well, the plastic dash, the part from the bottom of the windshield to the padded part, developed a crack in the left lower corner of the defrost vent back to the padded part. Is this repairable, or will it have to be replaced? If it has to be replaced, how big of a job is it?

Re: Dash cracked

Its not hard to replace you just have to remove the A pillars and then it will come out. The only problem is they are expensive and tough to find. If you listed the year of your car it would be easier to determine how hard it will be to get one. 97+ cars are easier to get the pads for but 93-96 Birds and 93-96 Camaros have hard to find dash pads. You can try to glue it back together. I've had good luck with a product called plastic welder, it can be found at walmart. If you have to buy a new dash pad they are about $160+ shipping new so probably about close to $200 shipped to your door.

Re: Dash cracked

I did forget to say it's a '96 Formula.

The A pillars are the only thing holding it in place? It just slides up to the windshield?

Re: Dash cracked

Yeah as the other guy said the velcro is the only thing holding down the pad besides the A pillars. Since its from an Early bird the only pad that will interchange is the 93-96 Bird or TA pad. A Camaro will not work and a 97 is slightly different and won't work either. Finding a good used one tough because they are usually destroyed by air bags in wrecks and can be brittle and tough to remove with out cracking them.

You can say that again . I never had a problem with the 97-up ones breaking . I just went to take the interior out of my 94 , and that pad came out literally in pieces , and it wasnt craked to begin with

Check ebay , I see them on there all the time . Search for Firebird dash ~or Firebird dashpad . Thats what most people on there list them as . If you find one double check , and make sure the seller knows exactly what year its out of , alot of people on the generalize and list for 93-2002 . Like Z95m6 said , the 97-up dashes may look the same , but the top contour of the dash is different than the 93-96 firebird dash .

Also try www.car-part.com . If I couldnt find a F-body part on ebay , I always have there .
