flat black paintjob - yay or nay

okay - always been a fan of hotrods painted flat black , something about them just screams mean - well im replacing my front bumper, fenders and hood and gonna need paintjob in spring-

so... looking to paint the entire car now - so im debating going with a matte black but not just a primer. A real matte black paint so it will hold up - whats ur take-

heres some examples

so whats your opinion? or anyone have any pics of 4th gens painted flat?

aight- in researching looks like best bet would be to use dupont hot rod black paint

I like the idea, but unless it's on something like the Ferraris above it'll just look like you couldn't afford a real paint job. If I wanted to paint mine to look like it was all business, I'd go with a gunmetal grey type of color, but still glossy and maybe some gunmetal or silver wheels.

I dont like flat black, it just looks like you cant afford the clear. Ide agree with breakmyfootoff, paint it gunmetal if you like that sort of look.

Re: flat black paintjob - yay or nay

ha okay - so far nobody is into it - its funny cause other board im on everyone is all about it-

just want to clarify it wouldnt look like it doesnt have a clear- The paint is a matte and there is a matte clear that goes over it- it wouldnt fade or chaulk.
guess ill hold off on this idea for a while- think it through a bit more

thanks for your opinions

I'd go for it, I've seen a few cars with that paint and I kinda like it.

It's like having a primered car; says that you spent the money in the motor, not the paint.

I think there's a reason that none of those were domestics. It works on Civics (no I don't mean ricers) and stuff like that, but on a 4th gen fbody it just doesn't work at all. Rat rods, or imports.

Some older Mustangs had a flat black hood and trunk cover. The idea being that it would cut down glare on the driver. I think that would be OK. Or as someone else said perhaps a wide flat black middle stripe. But a whole car that is flat black just looks wrong. Like a car that is just primered.

I think it looks alright. When I painted mine I put down black sealer first and it looked cool. I think it would wear on you though.
