Camaro Find of the Month....Maybe Year
I had to do a vehicle inspection on this car a few months ago. (Anytime someone purchases a car out of state and brings it to Kentucky a Sheriff has to inspect the vehicle) When I first pulled up to it I thought somebody did a really nice job restoring this 3rd gen Camaro. As I got closer in saw the interior I realized this car is all original. It was truely amazing to see this car in person.
1984 Camaro Z28 5.0L "HO" 5-speed manual, T-Tops.
Only 1,907 miles, it had never been titled, still had the title of origin from GM. The new owner said the car has been in a museum out west for the past 20 years.
And now its For Sale......$26,500

The only thing that confused me with this car was that the rocker panel molding were black matching the body color on this car with no pin striping. I thought all Z28s back then got silver rocker panel moldings. He said that this Camaro was special ordered with body colored matching moldings. I checked Camaro White Book and there is no mention body colored moldings, or silver molding delete. But the book does state that special order color deviations may have been built.

I'm not an expert, but I am certain that this is not an 84. This front spoiler was not available until 85. In 84 the lower part of the spoiler would have had the small retangular holes, refered to later as the RS spoiler. The parking lights are wrong. In 84 they were recessed not almost flush.
I believe this is an 85, they are not showing you th e VIN or the engine.
In any case I don't think it's worth $26,500 either.

I saw this car on Mecum Auto Auction which is aired on Discovery HD Theater a few weeks ago which was pretty awesome. Bids topped out at $20K and it didn't sell, they never said what the reserve was. They described this car as the first Camaro Z28 with the IROC-Z pkg. ????? 1984????
Thinking back when I inspected the car, I remember the owner saying it was a IROC-Z but the decals were deleted. This may explain the front end/spoiler issue. Maybe this was a GM test car IROC stuff for the upcoming '85 model?
IROC weren't produced until 1985 right?
The mystery deepens.......
EDIT: Here is the VIN# 1G1AP87G0EL221887
Maybe someone here can desipher some thing out of the VIN#. I ran a Carfax and it came back with 0 records!

I decoded the VIN number
1G1AP87G0EL221887
1 - Country of Origin = United States
G - Manufacturer = General Motors
1 - Manufacturing Division = Chevrolet
A - Restraint System = Non-Passive
P - Series = Sports Coupe/Z28
87 - Body = Sports Coupe
G - Engine = L69 5.0L HO 190hp
0 - Check Digit ?
E - Year = 1984
L - Assembly Plant = Van Nuys, CA
221887 - Sequential Production Number
Nothing really sticks out, confirms its a 1984 model. Seems like a high production number, maybe towards the end of the '84 model run?
Here is a link to page for this car on the Mecum Auto Auction page, there are a few more pics. on that page.

it definetly has the 85+ nose cone and 85-90 front chin. I also believe that the speedo unit is 82-84 tho. the ground effects coloring delete for that year is rare, i dont think ive seen an original like that. its got a bad pic of the front, i cant tell if it has the 82-84 z28 hood or if its the 85+ style...kinda looks like the 84 version. im still wondering about the paint and front end tho. kinda fishy but still very nice.
I know a guy here in town that has a 15k mile 89-90 IROC that still has the original tires on it...350 tpi and dark maroon with black interior. he will sell it for 10-12k
